2017- 2018 This was the ED project I lead for SCB from scratch, in the design, selection of external ED partners through to delivery - and personally attended every event meeting each of our 1200 leaders. Working with Duke Executive Education, we ran a highly innovative programme with experiential learning and dialogue as a sustained change approach. We worked with a wide variety of actors, clients, futurists, police, and community parties, creating challenges, using 121, small group and large group formats - with mentoring in all directions. It's great to see how well SCB has been developing as a business since these interventions. Called #It'sOnUs and #MakeItReal at the time, it was fully integrated with annual conferences for the top 300 called #CountingOnUs. Everything had the full backing of Bill Winters and his top team, who gave personal time to it, made it all possible. #GotYourBack became the full theme throughout - of what all leaders needed to give and get to succeed, increasing openness and risk-taking, learning from mistakes. One of the best value easy tools that made change possible was the #TruthTellers 720 Feedback - where it was NOT anonymised but led to much better developmental discussions - as well as all data based on #Hogan psychological profiling - with individual collective functional and group levels analysis, linked to the strategic objectives of SCB and annual employee surveys.

This exploratory case study evaluates the impact of an executive development program at Standard Chartered Bank, and identifies the contribution of the different program phases to its impact. A holistic evaluation framework was designed, based on a mixed-method research approach. It involves extensive data collection and application of multiple analysis techniques incorporating quantitative, qualitative and blended approaches.

The program has a positive impact, with many objectives transforming into outcomes. The core program is the main contributor to outcome delivery. Improvements to the pre and post program phases could increase effectiveness and recommendations have been made to achieve this. The findings have direct practical implications for organisations, as they show critical success factors and specific areas for consideration in maximising leadership program effectiveness.
