SAP projects are starting to pick up, but it’s not without some challenges. Many businesses are still finding it tough to get business cases approved, especially when it’s hard to clearly define ROI in the short term. A few trends I’ve noticed lately: ⚽ Independent SAP deal negotiators are becoming more important — helping organisations make sense of the RISE model and get better value. ⚽ Brownfield migrations still seem to be the preferred approach for larger ECC6 landscapes. ⚽ The talent pool for SAP S/4HANA is pretty tight, particularly when it comes to people with skills in cloud tools like BTP, Signavio, LeanIX, and CALM. ⚽ Change management feels more critical than ever, especially for teams moving to SAP’s public cloud offerings. It’s definitely a time of change, complexity, and opportunity.

Many companies rely heavily on SI partners to handle the bulk of their S/4HANA implementations. We’ve all heard the horror stories 😬, missed timelines, incomplete solutions, scope creep, lack of accountability, and billings that far surpass the original budget. That said, it’s worth noting that many SIs do a fantastic job from start to finish 🤝. However, more organisations are taking a proactive approach by hiring internal SAP experts to oversee these projects and ensure their business objectives are fully represented. The results of these key hires can be remarkable: -->Stronger relationships between customer and SI 🥳 -->Improved accountability ✅ -->Better adherence to timelines ⏱️ -->Clearer communication 🗣️ -->Holding both partners and internal stakeholders responsible for shifting requirements ⚖️ While the initial investment in an internal SAP team may seem significant 💰, it can be the difference between a successful transformation and one that ends in costly delays or failure 🚀 vs. 💥.

🔹 A few tips for fellow SAP Contractors 🔹 Having worked in this space for a while, I wanted to share a few thoughts that might help us all build stronger relationships and better reputations in the market. 💬 1. Let’s move beyond “What’s the rate?” Asking about rates upfront, especially via LinkedIn or email, can unintentionally signal that compensation is the only priority. Of course, rates matter. But leading with curiosity about the project, the team, or the impact you’ll make shows a more balanced and professional approach. 📞 2. Take the 5-minute call Instead of sending a long list of questions, consider hopping on a quick call. It saves time, builds rapport, and gives you a clearer picture than any message thread ever could. 🧠 3. Do your homework before reaching out I've seen many reaching out without reading the whole advert, or personal message about the role, and asking questions which answers were already there. 🤝 4. Think long-term, not just transactional Every interaction is a chance to build trust. Even if a role isn’t the right fit today, how you engage can leave a lasting impression, and open doors tomorrow. 🌟 5. Share strong references -> they’re your sponsors Good references aren’t just formalities. They’re advocates who can tip the scale in your favor during the hiring process. A trusted voice vouching for your work ethic, attitude, and delivery can be the difference between being considered and being chosen. We’re all here to grow, collaborate, and deliver great work.
