You deserve recognition that matches your impact. Did you ever experience this? You close a massive project at 11pm on a Friday. Monday's leadership call is all about someone else's update. I used to think recognition was about working harder. Turns out, it's not a fairness problem. It's a visibility problem. And I was making myself invisible. Solving problems before they exploded. → No one saw the crisis I prevented. Crediting the team for wins. → Leadership thought it just "happened." Assuming good work speaks for itself. → While others narrated every contribution. Sound familiar? Here's what shifted for me. The leaders who break through? They keep their high EQ. They keep their integrity. They keep solving the hard problems. But they stopped making one assumption: That impact translates itself. This changed how I approached everything. And when I helped the leaders I work with see this pattern? Everything shifted for them too. The diagnostic that exposed it: 1️⃣ Could your boss list 3 specific outcomes you drove this quarter? → If not, you're doing impact work without impact storytelling. 2️⃣ Do you wait for others to notice your contributions? → How long have you already waited? What has that cost your career? 3️⃣ When you do speak up, do you minimize your role? → The team did great" vs "Here's how I structured our approach to get this result." 4️⃣ Do you document your wins as you go? → Or panic-compile during review season? 5️⃣ Could someone outside your team explain what you're exceptional at? → If not, your reputation is a blank page. And blank pages get skipped. (Or filled in by someone that's not you.) 6️⃣ Do you connect your work to business outcomes? → "Improved morale" or "Saved $180K in attrition costs"? The practice that changed everything: → Name the problem before you solve it ("I'm seeing early signs of X, here's my approach") → Connect people work to business math (retention rates, velocity increases, cost saves) → Build a narrative, not a task dump ("Problem I inherited → My approach → Measurable shift") Here's what I see now: Loud people advance. Even when they shouldn't. But you don't need to become loud. You need to be clear about the problems you solve and the value you create daily. Volume gets attention. But clarity gets respect. So, last week I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon with Alex Partridge talking about the intersection between ADHD and Emotionally unstable or borderline personality disorder (EUPD) for his ADHD chatter podcast. I really enjoy talking to Alex because he's very knowledgeable, kind and curious. But it was one of the more difficult interviews I've given. It's not because I'm short of information or experience on the topic. and it's not because I'm not passionate about improving mental health through education and awareness. That's why I founded ADHDEd. No, the reason I found the interview hard was because there aren't lots of easy answers. I'd spent time discussing the topic with colleagues and reaching out on linked in and what came back was very clear in terms of diagnosis rates: 77% of you said yes, we have been diagnosing EUPD where we should have diagnosed neurodiversity and 23% were not sure, but no one said no, we were not picking up enough EUPD. Thanks to Dr Hannah Nearney, Sarah Turner, Helen Brice, Rosie Elvin, Dr Maria Daves, Matt Gupwell, Mind-Reframed: DBT, MBT and Psychological Services (London, UK and Online) Dr Claire Hepworth Clinical and Coaching Psychologist HCPC, BABCP, and Dr Jonathan Garabette for your input to this conversation. So, clinician feedback suggests we're missing out on neurodiversity, but what does that mean in terms of treatment? Well, it would be good to see a lot more people diagnosed with EUPD having their diagnosis reviewed from a neurodiversity lens. It would also be good to see those with ADHD being offered the effective pharmacological treatments we know can help with ADHD, and the reasonable adjustments that might support them at work or in education. But it would also be good to see some of the therapeutic approaches to EUPD more widely adopted in the ADHD world- it may be controversial because EUPD is so stigmatised but DBT informed therapies do have some evidence base in ADHD and may be a lot better than CBT. In particular group based skills training with a mindfulness component is likely to be helpful. However, the bigger issue than all of this is that there is a lack of decent service provision for a stigmatised group of people with significant mental health struggles. We lack highly trained neurodiversity assessors, we don't have a combined ADHD/ASD assessment protocol yet, we lack good group based psychotherapy approaches and the waiting list for an ADHD assessment for adults is up to 23 years in some parts of the UK. All the education in the world isn't going to fill the gap where all these skilled clinicians and services should be. And as a responsible educator I can't tell people it's straightforward- just pop along and see your GP. So that's what I found hard, despite my enthusiasm for the subject. #ADHD #psychology #therapy #DBT

When a corporate crisis hits… the EA feels it first. Not because they caused it. But because they’re expected to contain it. The comms chaos. The press leaks. The leadership silence. The inbox full of people demanding answers you haven’t been given either. If you’ve been there, you know: The pressure doesn’t trickle down. It lands directly on you. Here are 8 things I want every EA to remember when the wheels come off: 🌀 1. Slow down to speed up. When urgency kicks in, deep thinking disappears. Move steadily. Think long game. That’s where you protect the cracks before they break. 🛡2. Protect your energy. Their stress isn’t yours to absorb. Be empathetic—but don’t let it leak into your centre. 🔗3. Don’t operate in a silo. Think interdependencies. Who needs to know? When? In what order? Clear cascades > scattered comms. 📝4. Be obsessed with your language. Every word could be made public. Write with care. Lead with clarity. Move fast—but protect reputations. 👣5. One foot in front of the other. You will be under pressure. You will feel like you’re in the gun. But methodical > manic. That’s what keeps the business steady. 🎯6. Anchor to the business, not the drama. What serves the customer? What protects the brand? Return to that. Every time. 🗂7. Track everything. Assume nothing. Versions change. People forget. You won’t. 🧭8. Lead the room before they realise it needs leading. You don’t need the title. You bring the calm, the structure, the clarity. 3 people lost me as a client because they led with a shiny PDF, and none of them realised that was the problem🤯... I put a call out for local content creators for a private event I’m hosting, and within hours, I had 4 beautifully designed service guides in my inbox. No real questions, just pre-set packages, prices and bullet points outlining services I hadn’t even asked for. A couple said “Tell me more about the event,” which was nice… But no one asked: → What kind of support I needed → What outcome I was hoping for → What vibe I wanted to create It all felt… generic, like I was getting shoehorned into a package they already had. So I didn’t choose any of them. I actually went with someone who cost more, but made me feel like the offer was tailored to what I actually needed. Here’s the lesson: Your first impression isn’t your logo, and it’s definitely not your polished PDF. It’s: → The conversation you start → The way you listen → The smart questions you ask → The way you tailor your service based on what the client actually tells you If you’re leading with a PDF, but struggling to convert, this might be why. ❌ Not because your prices are too high. ❌ Not because you're not experienced. But because your sales process is skipping the connection part. Getting money into your business starts with connections and conversations. It’s the one that turns browsers into buyers.
