We are pleased to share that we have been appointed by St Elizabeth Hospice to build a new community hospice in Gorleston. The hospice will feature an outpatient and community hub that will support day care patients and provide therapy services, while serving as a base for local hospice staff. The development will also include a community café and an inpatient facility capable of hosting up to 16 beds. Working with LSI Architects, Castons Artelia and Create Consulting Engineers, we are thrilled to be supporting St Elizabeth Hospice in delivering this new facility; an important milestone in the hospice’s development. The Trust is pleased to announce that Buckinghamshire has been selected to join the first wave of the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP). This is a major national initiative designed to transform the NHS over the next decade by delivering high-quality, joined-up care closer to people’s homes. Buckinghamshire is one of only 43 successful applicants chosen from 141 submissions nationwide. The selection recognises the county’s evolving neighbourhood model and the strong commitment to collaborative working across health, care, the voluntary and community sector, and wider partners. The programme will support the development of integrated neighbourhood health services across Buckinghamshire, with a specific focus on High Wycombe, North Buckinghamshire, Beaconsfield and Marlow. The neighbourhood teams will bring together professionals from Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Primary care led by Bucks GP Provider Alliance, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Buckinghamshire Council, voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations, pharmacy, optometry and dentistry services. The Government praised Buckinghamshire’s application for its innovation, ambition, and strong local collaboration. The programme will build on existing work and experience, supporting sites through collaborative learning, coaching, implementation and support to roll out this new vision for health care in local communities. Raghuv Bhasin, Chief Operating Officer, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust said: “Neighbourhood Care is central to our vision of helping people in Buckinghamshire live healthier and more independent lives. It is about working with partners to move services to fit around the needs of people and communities, being more proactive in providing support and using all the skills of our excellent teams and the voluntary sector. Earlier this week Skills for Care published their annual Size and Structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England report. There are some signs of positivity, and this is despite a fall in the number of international recruits but there is still a need for all of us in the sector to focus on future proofing the care workforce. Headlines include: - Vacancy rate has fallen to 7% (a return to pre-Covid levels) - The number of filled posts has grown by 3.4% - Turnover rate (independent sector) has decreased to 24.7% There is no silver bullet but I believe that we need to focus on: 👩‍🎓 Training and upskilling – this is critical if we are to build a workforce that is well armed to deliver increasingly complex care. There is a good reason why we call our carers Care Professionals – it’s recognition of the work they perform. 🙋‍♂️ Meaningful work – empowering care workers to deliver quality care that makes a difference to their clients’ lives will make the work more appealing. 🤗 Engender a positive workplace culture – care can be lonely; we need to create an environment where care workers feel valued and part of a team.
