When Dipesh Mistry DipFA, director & IFA at Illuminate Wealth Management, first walked into a networking room early in his career, he immediately realised he stood out. “There were about 400 people there,” Mistry said. “I was probably the youngest in the room, and definitely the only non-grey-haired person. It was all middle-aged men in suits — and this was in Harrogate, Wetherby, York. They just weren’t used to someone like me.” Read about his journey from banking into financial advice: https://on.ft.com/3KLqxkV

Income portfolios, anyone? No thanks, say Rathbones clients. The asset manager has shut the income model portfolio it inherited from Investec over lack of demand. https://on.ft.com/4n886nN David Coombs, Rathbones head of multi-asset, who was given the task of developing the model portfolio range following the acquisition of Investec, said the income portfolio had less than £10mn in it, from a total of £230mn of assets in the MPS range. He said conversations with clients revealed “most of them allocated because they liked the risk weighting it had, rather than because of the income”.
