✏️ I wrote in this morning's Sustainable Views newsletter about how the constant chopping and changing round the #EUDR is bad for transparency and ultimately democracy. 🙋♀️ The unexpected vote today by the European Parliament against a version of the #CSRD and the #CSDDD, which many experts argue would neither deliver for the climate, nor for business or investors can be seen as a sign of democracy in action. 📣 “Today’s result shows Parliament is not prepared to rubber-stamp the EPP’s blackmail or a deal that weakens Europe’s sustainability framework," says MEP Kira Marie P.. 🙍♂️ But the outcome of the European Commission's decision to open up these laws to a free-for-all is chaos — and a process that is opaque and increasingly impossible for anyone but Brussels bubble insiders to understand. 📣 “What we are witnessing is no longer a debate about policy but a battle of politics," says Tsvetelina Kuzmanova. "The focus has shifted from improving the rules to using them as bargaining chips. This is a worrying signal for Europe’s credibility, especially when sound governance and responsible business conduct should be the baseline, not the casualty of political games.
