Newtown's Relic on State closed its doors at the end of June, but building owner Scott Hendrickson is already working to bring a new restaurant into the historic space.

Relic on State, the New York City-style steakhouse and upscale bar, closed its doors unexpectedly in Newtown at the end of June, but building owner Scott Hendrickson is already working to bring a new restaurant into the historic space, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

Veteran restaurateur Greg Conlon opened Relic in 2020 after investing thousands of dollars renovating the three-story stone building. It has been part of Newtown’s landscape since the days of George Washington’s childhood.

“The building is beautiful,” said Hendrickson. “It’s historic. The work that Relic and Greg put into making what this building is today is outstanding. It’s absolutely beautiful and they did it in a way that restored its historic beauty.”

The renovation was one of the main reasons why the Yardley resident purchased the property several years ago.

“I was impressed with its history,” said Hendrickson. “You came in here, listened to some Frank Sinatra playing in the background, and had the best steak in town.”

Although he’s disappointed to see Relic on State close, Hendrickson is already interviewing potential restaurateurs and operators who could bring new life to the space.

Read more about what’s next for this historic Newtown location and what Hendrickson envisions for its future in the Patch.
