With the growing demand for AI acceleration, cloud data centers, and high-bandwidth networks, the “clock” that drives everything behind the scenes is like the heartbeat of electronic circuits. Industry’s First, One for Both Ethernet and PCIe Spread Spectrum
Skyworks has introduced the industry’s first single-chip clocks capable of simultaneously generating ultra-low jitter reference signals for 224G PAM4 Ethernet SerDes and PCI Express (Gen 1–6). Achieving an unprecedented 18 femtoseconds RMS phase jitter, the new devices leverage Skyworks’ fifth-generation DSPLL® and MultiSynth™ technologies to deliver any-frequency, multi-output clock generation in a single, highly configurable IC with extreme precision. In short, buyers can get perfectly timed signals for two major technologies in one package, servicing high-speed internet and data center connections, and the pathways connecting graphics cards and storage.
Precision and Ultra-Low Jitter for Diverse Applications
The SKY63104/5/6 family and the SKY62101 chips can deliver up to 12 separate timing signals and generate clock frequencies ranging from 8 kHz to 3.2 GHz. They support multiple signal formats, such as LVDS, HCSL, and LVPECL, allowing electronic components to send and receive timing information in different ways. All these functions are packed into a compact 8 × 8 mm QFN package about the size of a fingernail. The chips offer ±50 pis of output-to-output skew, keeping the timing between outputs almost perfectly aligned. They also enable “hitless switching” as low as 35 ps, allowing the system to change clock sources without causing errors. In addition, the devices also include spread-spectrum clocking, which slightly varies the signal frequency to reduce EMI. They comply with international standards such as SyncE, ITU-T, and Stratum-3E, making them not only ideal for data centers and AI accelerators but also widely applicable to 5G/6G networking equipment, intelligent transportation systems, edge computing platforms, and high-precision industrial control equipment, ensuring stability and reliability across applications.
