About this audiobook
After America’s Second Civil War, the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life armies came to an agreement. According to their Bill of Life, human life may not be terminated from the moment of conception until the age of thirteen. But between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, the child may be gotten rid of by their parent through a process called “unwinding.”
By repurposing a teen’s organs and other body parts in living recipients, the unwound child’s life doesn’t technically end. According to society’s leaders, unwinding leads to a healthier and safer community, as troublesome and unwanted teens are used for the greater good.
Conner is a rebel whose unwinding was ordered by his parents. Rita, a ward of the state, has been slated for unwinding due to cost cutting. And Lev, his parents’ tenth child, has been destined for unwinding since birth as a religious tithe. As their paths intersect, they start to fight for their own destinies. But do they stand a chance of escaping their fate or proving their lives are worth saving?

It's such an interesting premise to explore....extreme and nonconsensual organ donation. I thought that Neal Shusterman did an excellent job unwrapping the layers of the issue as well as the different aspects of a society where unwinding in normal. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Read this first in middle school. I’m 27 with a son now. Roland’s last chapter in the book still made me sob uncontrollably. So did Harlan’s last appearance in the book. Still one of the best books I’ve ever read. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

It took me a month to read it, even though I fell in love with the story, the premise, and the characters from the first book, who continue to delight me, including the new characters. However, there is a lot of filler, which slows down the reading pace. I understand there are several characters, and we learn about their journeys, allowing us to understand this world and its implications, but the pace is sacrificed for that. By the end, it finally returns to the enjoyment I felt in the first book, and of course, it leaves you wanting more with the sequel, which, based on the foundations laid in this book, I hope will be explosive. Quite original like the books I read earlier by this author. But I think with the later sagas (the one about Harvest) it improves in terms of intensity and surprises. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5

I just bought the physical books "Siega" and "Nimbo" by this same author, something I only do with books that I really like. It's a shame that this work by Neal didn't appeal to me enough to buy it... Although the plot interested me, the reality is that I didn't like it very much, and while it wasn't a waste of time, it didn't resonate with me, just pure entertainment. If I read the second one, it will be out of sheer curiosity and with the hope that it will change my mind about the series. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Dystopian young adult, second part where new characters are introduced that bring a lot of life to the story, as well as a chilling character (due to what he represents), Cam, who will make one ponder about "disconnection". The characters from the first part seem a bit stagnant, except for Lev, and only at the end do the events rush forward. It resembles "The Darkest Minds". It's a surprising, dark book, somewhat raw in my opinion. I love how the author addresses a completely novel theme and makes references to similar topics in each chapter, really making you think about the direction society is heading today and about issues that many underestimate but are of great importance. It has become one of my favorite series. The author captivates with his way of writing. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This saga (4 books) is one of the best I have read as it allows us to see the same event from different perspectives, the plot is good and complex, the characters are real, and the events are believable. I feel that this is a worthwhile read because every detail is important and is part of something bigger, so it requires attention. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Reconnection is a book that manages to give us a series of emotional nuances as it makes us empathize with each character, due to the way it shows the realities each one lives within the plot. It reminded me of events that gave me goosebumps in the previous book and, why not say it, here too. A character that fascinated me in this book is Cam, about whom I want to know more and more; his appearance in this book was clever. Lev, a great character, continues to evoke excitement every time he appears. It was nice to see Connor and Risa again, who have undergone growth that makes them more interesting characters. I also liked the way the events have been developing, leaving me eager to know what happens in the next book. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Risa, Connor, and Lev are our protagonists; these characters are very well defined, very complete. Although at the beginning they are a bit childish, the author manages to put them in situations and twists that are as unexpected as they are exciting, quickly hooking the reader. This book was a great and pleasant surprise. (Translated from Spanish) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Reconnection is a second installment that is much better than its predecessor. The way it is crafted and the questions that have been resolved have made it a truly wonderful read.
In this book, we continue the story of Lev, Connor, and Risa after they dealt with one of the harvesters; the struggle to continue their lives and the growth they experience afterward... Lev, Lev, Lev.
But now it’s not just about them; new characters are introduced with whom you can become attached or disdainful. There’s also the fact that it adds not just disconnection, but the creation of something new, something surprising; Cam, a character who brings something different and good.
I feel that, in addition to all that, the writing feels better, in my opinion, and that’s why I was quite comfortable while reading.
I have a lot of hope for the next installments. (Translated from Spanish)
