Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in America and many other parts of the world. According to the CDC, over 40% of adults in the United States are considered obese. This chronic condition significantly raises the risks of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. The medical costs associated with obesity are estimated to be $147 billion per year in the US alone.
Despite the risks, rates of obesity continue to climb every year. Many experts believe this is due to poor diet and sedentary modern lifestyles. Processed and packaged foods loaded with refined carbohydrates, sugars and unhealthy fats are a major culprit. Constant stress and lack of sleep also negatively impact weight management. With hectic work schedules, many find it difficult to exercise regularly or prepare nutritious home-cooked meals.
Conventional weight loss methods like calorie restriction, commercial diet plans and bariatric surgery may work short term but frequently fail over the long run. Cutting calories severely often backfires metabolically, causing rebound weight gain. This highlights the need for a more holistic, health-centered approach to weight management.
