A domain is like a large wellcoordinated office where everything is controlled from a central hub ideal for big organizations that need to keep data secure and easily accessible. On the flip side, a workgroup is more like a small team where everyone manages their tasks but can still collaborate when needed perfect for smaller networks where simplicity and ease of use are the priorities.
What is Domain?
Domain is a client/server network where users can log in from any device in the office. Also known as Remote login. It has a centralized administration and all devices can be managed from a centralized device. It prefers centralized storage and all the user's data is stored at a centralized storage device which can be NAS or SAN.

A workgroup is a peer-to-peer windows computer network, where users can use their login credentials only on or her system and not others. It holds a distributed administration wherein each user can manage his machine independently. Most storage is distributed. Each device has its own dedicated storage.

While domains offer more control and scalability, workgroups provide a more straightforward setup for smaller networks where collaboration among a few users is the focus.
