New mechanics need to be taught how to do the job the correctly, without the pressure of time constraints. Precision should be the only focus for a new mechanic. The speed will come later with the confidence and knowledge to do the job correctly.

Start by focusing on precision solely, speed comes with experience and knowledge. It is more valuable to be precise than work fast and risk mistakes, injury or mechanical damage. Rushing could cause you to redo work and take even longer. Don't try to work beyond your means or you will set yourself up for failure, but know you are also on your company's dollar, so be efficient. Gain experience first and speed comes naturally, never compromise on precision though.

Precision are taught while speed are self taught. For new mechanics, it's important to learn the basic needs to be precise whether it's hands on or theory. Both are parallel with each other. Some said it's like Yin and Yang. When you master this then you can be precise involuntarily. In continuation of this precision, you will teach yourself how to do it faster. Not shortcut ; but faster. Nobody can teach anybody how to do it fast. You may look another person do it fast and easy. That only because they master the fundamental of precision beforehand. There's 100% chance that you will fail to do it like what you saw. That's why there's a saying, "Practice makes perfect". Practice precision to the point you can make it look easy and fast.

Prioritizing precision should be the only thing new mechanics focus on. Train them to get it right the first time is the biggest saver of time when training. As they become more familiar and comfortable with the equipment, they will speed up.

Putting speed and precision together is not always the best method or approach, it often leads to equipment failures, and or injury, Encouraging and supporting your technician is the best method, giving them all the tools they need to do the job correctly and in a clean well presented workshop, The biggest problem you have is interference by management, that don’t often understand what is going on and it’s often not qualified for the job that the technician is doing

New colleague (mechanics) joining the team need to mostly focus on precision with moderate supervision then as he/she gain confidence and repetition of same work. Also to be taught about how the organization works and guarded on how things should operate.

    1. Hands-on Training – Provide structured hands-on practice with experienced mentors to help mechanics develop both accuracy and efficiency. 2. Standardized Procedures – Implement clear step-by-step procedures for common tasks to reduce errors and improve workflow consistency. 3. Quality Checks – Encourage a habit of double-checking work, especially for critical repairs, to catch mistakes before they become costly. 4. Use of Proper Tools – Ensure they have access to the right tools and understand how to use them effectively to improve both precision and speed. 5. Simulated Practice – Use simulations or controlled scenarios to let new mechanics practice under realistic conditions without real-world risks.
