The 891st MSFS is comprised of more than 250 dedicated Airmen and civilians supporting the 91st Missile Wing’s global deterrence mission. • Last week, Malmstrom’s EOD Airmen formed "Task Force Heat" to take on their third iteration of exercise Big Trouble in Little Townsend. Joined by eight additional Airmen across the United States Air Force, the team set out to take down the simulated terrorist organization, dismantle its drone army and capture its leaders. The team worked for four days and five nights to launch daring raids, ambushes and intel missions. With every mission were pre-planned challenges set forth for them: booby-trapped buildings, ambushes in the dead of night and the constant threat of simulated explosives. Sleep was a luxury, but teamwork and grit kept the squad moving forward. In their final showdown, "Task Force Heat" disabled a simulated weapon of mass destruction, fought through simulated traps and explosives, and faced and defeated their adversary in a last stand. Through this successful collaboration, Malmstrom's EOD Airmen and their teammates proved they were not only ready to take on exercise Big Trouble in Little Townsend, but that they are prepared for a real-world response should it be needed. 📸 - A1C Jack Rodriguez Air Force Global Strike Command | United States Strategic Command

  • 🎉 Minuteman III Turns 55! 🎉 On 19 August 1970, Strategic Air Command placed the first flight of 10 Minuteman III ICBMs on alert at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. Those missiles were assigned to the 741st Strategic Missile Squadron. This was the byproduct of the US Air Force’s nine-year Minuteman Force Modernization Program governing the replacement of all deployed Minuteman I (A and B) ICBMs with either Minuteman II or Minuteman III missiles. The Air Force determined to replace the arsenal of Minuteman I ICBMs at the 91st Strategic Missile Wing with the military branch’s latest weapon system, Minuteman III.   The Minuteman III was the first US ICBM designed with the Multiple Independently targetable Re-entry Vehicle capability, or MIRV. This configuration allowed individual targeting upon release for each of the weapon’s three warheads.

  • The 582nd Helicopter Group completed Initial Operational Test & Evaluation for the MH-139A Grey Wolf on June 27, marking a major milestone in Twentieth Air Force’s efforts to modernize its helicopter fleet in support of nuclear security operations. “This milestone reflects the dedication and professionalism of our aircrews, maintainers and mission partners,” said Col. Bryant Bevan, 582 HG commander. “The MH-139 brings increased speed, range, and survivability to our mission set and enhances our ability to protect and support the ICBM enterprise.” The MH-139A Grey Wolf replaces the aging UH-1N Huey, offering significant improvements in capability and performance. With a significant increase in speed, range and payload capacity along with enhanced defensive systems, the Grey Wolf is built to support missile field security missions across vast and austere terrain. • 🤝 Teamwork in Action! 🤝 When the Sidney Police Department received a bomb threat earlier this week, Malmstrom’s K9 teams answered the call. With the help of the 550th Helicopter Squadron, handlers and their military working dogs were quickly transported to Sidney. Once on the ground, they joined local law enforcement and conducted a detailed sweep of the building to ensure the area was safe. Their expertise and precision gave the community peace of mind during a stressful situation. A huge shoutout to the 550 HS for getting Malmstrom's K9s where they needed to be, and to our MWD teams for standing ready 24/7 to support both our base and our local partners. 🐾 🚁
