Are we in a new era of sustainability communication? With the immense amount of changes that have taken place this last year, the short answer is: YES. That’s why this past year, 3BL has taken the time to amp up our features to keep up with the pace of AI, data, and the way stories are shared 👉 here are a few highlights #sustainability #impact #comms #AI

Thanks to Dave Armon and the team 3BL for highlighting the interview I did with them on the challenges recent graduates face in the transitioning to the workforce . The key is to tap into their core business skills which are applicable to a wide range of jobs - even if it doesn’t have sustainability in the tittle . The message is “you can have impact anywhere - so find a company where you can grow” . With over 10K graduates who are business trained from over 100 collleges entering the workforce each year Net Impact students are ready for work . Visit our website Net Impact to learn more on how to partner with us . #netimpact #3BL

Quick recap of the campfire we held on the final evening of Sustainable Brands in San Diego. The aim was to share tips for members of the sustainability community who are "between successes." We chatted about a recent conversation that TriplePundit editor Mary Mazzoni had with Karen Y. Johns, CEO of Net Impact, earlier this year. Karen often tells young people to pursue organizations that align with their values, rather than solely pursuing 'sustainability roles.' While some corporate sustainability teams are scaling back, as we in the space know, sustainable and responsible business is good and efficient business — and many of these skills are transferable. We also see that even if they're reducing staff in their ESG/sustainability departments (and/or calling those departments by a "less politicized" name, etc.), they're still pursuing some key sustainability objectives. (A link to the full interview is in the comments.) At 3BL, we found consistent YOY increases in 100 Best Corporate Citizens scores, indicating continuous improvement among the largest U.S. companies even as sustainability topics come under political fire. For example, in 2021, about a quarter of the Russell 1000 was disclosing quantifiable climate risk. By 2025, it was up to nearly 80 percent. This tells us that, no matter what companies are calling it, they're still working on this stuff. As people are looking for work — and many in the space question their entire career paths, why they chose this work, and if any of it really matters — it can be encouraging and helpful to draw on this and other evidence that suggests all is not lost, we're all still out here fighting the good fight, and we'll keep doing what we can to support each other. I'd like to thank all the #SB25SanDiego attendees who joined our conversation, while making s'mores, and especially those who shared encouraging words about their own recent experiences searching for the next role.

I wrote this. Great analysis from the powerful 3BL dashboard showing us what communicators in the #sustainability and #esg space are publishing so far this year. Check it out ⬇️

#DEI content saw the sharpest decline this year But, is that the full story? Although publishing volumes are down, engagement has remained relatively strong. ➕ How DEI is being talked about and categorized is shifting.

It's a windy, rainy afternoon in San Diego as I write this. Fortunately, the forecast for Wednesday is sunshine followed by a clear evening with temperatures in the 60s. Perfect campfire weather. The theme of the Sustainable Brands campfire I am co-hosting is advocacy for members of our community seeking their next role. Many of our talented peers and former co-workers can use a boost in their job search, so we will gather around the fire to extol the virtues of our friends, share inspiration and perhaps a tip or two that might help someone make a successful landing. We'll supply the s'mores. You bring your Rolodex and good cheer. Starts at 8 p.m. just outside the Lapper restaurant. See the comments for a photo of where we will be. #SB25SanDiego

Businesses are struggling to keep pace with ever-changing sustainability regulations and rollbacks, leaving them checking boxes instead of driving progress. What’s needed is better rules, argues @pfthaler, co-founder and co-CEO of the sustainability platform EcoVadis.
