We are proud to announce the return of our annual festival of the built environment, Doors Open Denver, happening September 25 to 28, 2025. This year’s theme, Architecture and Nature in Harmony, will celebrate Denver’s unique setting through a dynamic lineup of programming, including a keynote lecture, exclusive events, guided tours, open sites, and “On the Boards” with some of the city’s leading architecture firms. Doors Open Denver Early Bird tickets are available now for Denver Architecture Foundation members. Prices increase on August 4. Tickets will become available for non-DAF members on August 18. 9+CO (9th and Colorado) has been recognized with a 2025 Mayor’s Design Award, honoring the project’s contribution to open space, active streetscapes, and thoughtful placemaking. The 9+CO development reimagines the former medical campus into a walkable, mixed-use destination—where vibrant streetscapes, active green spaces, and human-scale design shape an inclusive urban experience. 🏆 This award recognizes the power of public space to strengthen community, connect neighborhoods, and bring people together. As we kicked off 2025, we took a moment to look back and celebrate the triumphs and little joys of 2024.  Here are the highlights in all shapes and sizes... click link below for more. - Retiring Principal Christian Barlock has (mostly) set aside his drafting board after a distinguished career, spending the majority of his 30 years working on prominent designs at 4240. - The ever-talented Felix Tannenbaum returned to 4240, bringing his playful design fodder, storytelling, and inquisitive mind which pushes project designs to the next level. - 4240’s enduring culture of growth and opportunity paid dividends with the advancement of our long-time colleague, the accomplished DJ Gratzer to Principal. - New projects kicked off across various mountain communities and locales - Steamboat Springs, Crested Butte, Aspen, Telluride, Vail, and Big Sky Montana. - Downtown Denver’s The Slate Hotel was the recipient of 4240’s first ‘Mayor’s Design Award’ in the “future forward” #adaptivereuse category. - The Elizabeth Hotel - Autograph Collection in Old Town Fort Collins and Clayton Hotel & Members Club in Denver’s Cherry Creek North District both received a 2024 The MICHELIN Guide Key. - Carbon-reducing design strategies, like Aura’s #masstimber at Snowmass Base Village and connecting to the waste-water recovery system at National Western Center, reaffirmed our commitment to stewardship and innovation. #designmatters #4240architecture
