826LA is dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills

About us

826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind, we provide after-school tutoring, evening and weekend workshops, in-school tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications. All of our programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice. We are always looking for volunteers who enjoy working with young people and using their creative talents to support the local community! For more information on volunteering, visit 826la.org/volunteer. You can also support 826LA by shopping the Time Travel Mart, a convenience store for time travelers, at timetravelmart.com.

  • We're so excited to welcome our LACDAC interns, Kenny & Alexa! Alexa Avila (she/her) is from the Coachella Valley, California. She is currently completing her Bachelor’s in Communication and Master’s in Literary Editing & Publishing at the University of Southern California and will be graduating in May 2026. At 826LA, Alexa supports the development team with their social media, internal/external communications, and event planning. Kenny Cosme grew up in sunny Santa Clarita, California. As a lover of nostalgia, Kenny incorporates treasured memories of the past into their design work today. Currently, they are pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Design at California State University, Northridge after being a part of Snapchat’s Snap Design Academy. Even more currently, Kenny is working at 826LA as a Design and Communications Intern. When it's time to end the day, Kenny enjoys gazing at the stars and the moon while listening to their meticulously curated playlists. (Pronouns: they/she)
