Safety First: Protecting Hotel Owners, Teams & Guests After the recent violence that claimed the lives of hotel owners in Dallas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, AAHOA is calling attention to the urgent need for safety awareness. Our new on-demand session provides real-world actions you can take now to protect yourself, your team, and your guests. Several of the tips shared by the presenters include: - Hire and vet rigorously: Written applications, verify gaps, call prior employers, run background checks (where permitted), and use E-Verify; avoid rushed hires. - Set and enforce house rules: Post rules (e.g., no smoking/cooking), include them on registration docs, and trespass when appropriate; de-escalate and call the police rather than engage physically. - 911 desk script: "We have a trespasser refusing to leave after multiple warnings and threatening staff and guests. We need immediate police response to [hotel/address].” - Partner with police: Invite patrols to drop in, request crime-prevention walkthroughs, and keep a sergeant/beat supervisor contact. - Non-lethal options and coverage: Consider pepper spray gel and training; confirm with your insurance broker.
