Today is World Mental Health Day, and we're reminded that cancer is not only a physical journey but an emotional one. While treatments continue to advance, too many employees still face the hidden toll of anxiety, depression, and stress—often compounded by financial and caregiving pressures. Supporting employees through these challenges is about more than benefits. It is about recognizing the whole person, meeting them with compassion and flexibility, and making space for conversations that reduce stigma and isolation. When workplaces embrace mental well-being as part of the cancer journey, employees are more likely to feel seen, supported, and hopeful in the moments that matter most. Early detection saves lives—but during #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, it’s equally important to be aware of the financial toxicity many breast cancer patients face. These costs can be as life-altering as the disease itself. While financial toxicity can impact anyone with cancer, patients with breast cancer are especially vulnerable. Research published in American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) summarizes why: •Over 70% of breast cancer patients in one study reported financial toxicity •Women, who make up 99% of breast cancer cases, often have lower incomes, higher caregiving responsibilities, and less financial flexibility •Treatment often involves multiple modalities, each with frequent appointments, complex insurance navigation, and high out-of-pocket costs •Young adults face added burdens like fertility preservation, childcare costs, and employment disruption, which can nearly double their risk of financial hardship These aren’t just financial challenges—they are barriers to care, health, and recovery. AccessHope is committed to raising awareness and support to make sure no patient fights alone. Delve into the study on financial toxicity in breast cancer patients and learn about the critical issues impacting their care: https://lnkd.in/gUNgTGpR #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #CancerCare #FinancialToxicity

We’re inspired by Angela Sim, CEBS, leadership at Gilead Sciences, and her dedication to advancing long-term employee health and well-being. Over the past decade, Angela has been at the forefront of creating programs that not only centralize and simplify benefits but also respond with compassion to the real challenges employees and their families face. That commitment came to life in 2023 with the launch of the Cancer Care Support Benefit in partnership with AccessHope. This program supports employees through life’s major moments—including cancer care—by connecting them and their loved ones with expert oncology insights and compassionate guidance during one of life’s toughest challenges. We’re proud to stand alongside Gilead and leaders like Angela in building benefits that go beyond access—delivering support, trust, and hope when people need it most.
