Although California’s Central Valley has seen wet years recently, the challenge of effective water storage persists. These wet years often result in flood releases, offering an opportunity to capture water that would otherwise flow out of the area. One effective solution to capture this water is the use of recharge basins, which allows the water to be stored underground for future use. In 2023, our farming team took a proactive approach by acquiring 80 acres specifically for the creation of dedicated recharge basins. Additionally, the team utilizes fallowed properties within our farming portfolio to support groundwater recharge throughout the area. These recharge projects not only secure vital water resources for our own farms, but also benefit neighboring farmers and local communities, creating a collective advantage.
