This year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) “Celebrating Value and Talent,” reminds us that every person’s unique skills and contributions make our workforce stronger. There are so many ways you can show support during NDEAM and beyond. Such as, supporting inclusive businesses and business initiative, like ACLD’s very own Candleworks and RewearAble, which provide meaningful employment opportunities to people with disabilities. Be an advocate and encourage local businesses to review their hiring practices and ensure accessibility for all. During the ongoing government shutdown, staff layoffs at several federal agencies have continued, including significant reductions at the Department of Education. These cuts have affected offices responsible for supporting students with disabilities, limiting their ability to carry out obligations under IDEA and Section 504.
