We’ve hit a Zooniverse milestone! 🎉 As of this month, Microsoft has made over 1 million scientific classifications through their Adler Zooniverse employee volunteer program! Since 2020, Microsoft employees have been working hard to contribute to real-life scientific research through Zooniverse, like: ⭐ Cataloging penguin families through Penguin Watch ⭐ Mapping chimp behavior through Chimp & See ⭐ Classifying galaxy types with Galaxy Zoo Every single classification has made a tangible impact on cutting-edge research. Thank you from our Zooniverse Team! 💛 Curious how to get your corporate team involved? About us
The Adler Planetarium connects people to the universe and each other. Whether it is introducing a guest to the Ring Nebula, a neighborhood school to a community partner, a research team to a network of citizen scientists, or one staff member to another, the Adler’s focus on meaningful connections dates back nearly a century. The museum typically hosts more than half a million visitors each year and reaches millions more through youth STEAM programs, neighborhood skywatching events, people-powered research, and other outreach efforts. Today, the Adler is bringing our unique approach—scientific exploration rooted in community and connection—to guests from around the world who can enjoy the digital Adler from their own homes, libraries, schools or offices. With the Adler’s support, people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities gain the confidence to explore their universe together and return to their communities ready to think critically and creatively about any challenge that comes their way. Keep looking up. We’re looking up with you.

We’ve been wondering…how are supernovas impacted by their home galaxies and what happens to a galaxy after one of its stars explodes? 💥 The Adler Zooniverse participatory science project, Supernova Host Herding, is looking for clues to find out—and we need your help! You can join in by classifying images of supernovas and their host galaxies to help us learn how they affect each other. ✨ Get lost in images of the cosmos and start classifying today: https://lnkd.in/g2tnFmjj [ 📷 : Zooniverse ] #AdlerPlanetarium #Zooniverse #CitizenScience #ParticipatoryScience #AstronomyResearch #STEMEngagement #VolunteerOnline

Ever wish someone could tell you the best time to ask for a raise, get married, or buy a house? In 18th-century India, an astrologer could use a panchānga—an intricate astronomical almanac—to help you figure that out! 🔮 This stunning panchānga from 1769 charts the year’s astronomical events. While panchāngas like this were fairly common, they required an astrologer’s interpretation to reveal their astrological significance and guide important decisions. Featuring recognizable iconography like Ganesh and the twelve zodiac signs, this panchānga also served as a decorative wall hanging—bringing the cosmos into people’s homes. See it on display for the first time ever in our upcoming exhibit, Stars Aligned, opening 10/31! ✨

Last month, our educators had a blast at the WTTW/Chicago PBS Explore Your City event! Adler educators visited Humboldt Park with hands-on activities for families. Children got to create their very own solar necklaces and learn about gravity and force by creating and launching stomp rockets! 🚀 Thank you to our friends at WTTW for inviting us to spark curiosity with the next generation of Chicagoans. ✨ #AdlerPlanetarium #PBS #WTTW #Chicago #PublicEngagement #STEMOutreach #STEMEducation #ChicagoMuseum

Last week, Adler Astronomer Dr. Michael Zevin and Curator Dr. Katie Boyce-Jacino joined Next, a The Alinea Group restaurant, for an extraordinary evening where astronomy met fine dining. ✨ Guests experienced an immersive, multi-course, space-themed menu while Dr. Zevin and Dr. Boyce-Jacino shared the science that inspired each dish. From answering questions about the cosmos to showcasing facsimiles from our collection, the evening was a true fusion of curiosity, creativity, and cuisine. Thank you to The Alinea Group and its CEO Jason Weingarten for their continued partnership in bringing science to the table—literally—and for creating such memorable opportunities to connect people with the universe. We’re looking forward to our second collaboration dinner at Next on October 29.
