At the CIEF Women in Construction (WIC) Conference, our own Kayla Montgomery and partners at Alteristic, Inc. shared their research backed insight on how creating inclusive jobsite cultures isn’t just the right thing to do, but its how we keep projects safe, teams strong, and deepen employees sense of belonging. Through the Green Dot Construction Trades (GDCT) program, Kristen Parks demonstrated that everyone, no matter your role, can step up, speak out, and be part of building a culture where people feel they belong and want to stay. Because when we protect people, we protect the future of construction. This commitment to inclusion continued throughout the week, with AGC supporting small businesses at the #ConstructionInclusionWeek Contractor Networking Mixers in Sacramento and the Bay Area — two events that celebrated our local communities and built new bridges between businesses. As we close out Construction Inclusion Week, we know the next generation – you – are watching. Inclusion isn’t a theme. It’s the foundation of how we attract and retain tomorrow’s workforce. Our goal is to open doors every day to build a more inclusive future in construction.

Check out Dr. Giovanna Brasfield's insights on on how having inclusive practices on jobsites can make a positive impact!
What does it really mean to put inclusion and belonging into practice in construction? AGC of California's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Steering Committee, made up of industry leaders and experts, is helping to answer that question by sharing how their companies are driving meaningful change. Build California, a program of the AGC Construction Education Foundation, is proud to partner with these leaders and their organizations, who exemplify all five #ConstructionInclusionWeek guiding pillars: Commitment & Accountability, Attract & Retain, Economic Opportunity, Belonging & Workplace Culture, and Community Engagement. Hear from Dr. Giovanna Brasfield, Brasfield & Associates LLC, and Mick Penn, Swinerton, on the impact of inclusive practices on jobsites and company culture. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient construction industry for all.

We're keeping Construction Inclusion Week going by recognizing the contributions and efforts made by women in the industry. Check out the California Constructor article on how Jacqueline Pruitt is forging her way in entrepreneurship!
Inclusion is about creating opportunities, and taking them. Jacqueline Pruitt knows this well. A union Ironworker by trade, Jacque transformed her hands-on experience into entrepreneurship when she founded @marvellasp - Marvella Steel Placers. Built from the ground-up with grit, determination, and an openness to mentorship, Marvella is now certified as a small, disadvantaged, woman, minority, local community, and LGBT-owned business, employing hundreds of union ironworkers and delivering quality work across California. Beyond her leadership at Marvella, Jacque also serves as a Founder and Board Member of our partner organization BuildOUT California, further demonstrating the impact of diverse leadership in shaping our industry’s future. As part of AGC’s Construction Education Foundation (CEF) board, we are proud to have Jacque’s voice and presence to celebrate and promote industry talent development, where opportunity can lead from the field to SUB ownership.
