Rough Riders Always Ready! OPERATION Valhalla Strike brought together 200+ Defenders from Minot AFB's 891st Missile Security Forces Squadron and aircrew members from the 54th Helicopter Squadron for a week-long field training exercise that focused on air base ground defense and nuclear security tactics at Camp Ripley Training Center, Minnesota. The 891st MSFS is comprised of more than 250 dedicated Airmen and civilians supporting the 91st Missile Wing’s global deterrence mission. These Defenders are trained, organized, and equipped to secure Minuteman III missiles, their launch facilities, and the multiple missile alert facilities geographically separated throughout the 8,500 square miles of Minot’s missile complex. Two weeks. One team. Sharpened skills. B-1B Lancers and Total Force Striker Airmen from the 7th Bomb Wing and the 307th Bomb Wing returned home to Dyess Air Force Base after supporting #BomberTaskForceEurope where they participated in two weeks of Allied-led training events designed to advance joint warfighting capability, strengthen cooperation, and improve how U.S. and Allied forces operate together in high-threat environments. #StrongerTogether "By working side by side in demanding environments, we gain the trust, understanding, and readiness needed to meet future challenges together,” said Maj. Congratulations to the 5th Munitions Squadron (5 MUNS) at Minot AFB for capturing 1st place at the 2025 Air Force Combat Operations Competition (AFCOCOMP)! Records were broken as 5 MUNS won 7 of the competition’s 9 events that were designed to test technical expertise, physical endurance, team cohesion, and the ability to perform under pressure - all critical attributes for real-world combat support operations. 🎉 Minuteman III Turns 55! 🎉 On 19 August 1970, Strategic Air Command placed the first flight of 10 Minuteman III ICBMs on alert at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. Those missiles were assigned to the 741st Strategic Missile Squadron. This was the byproduct of the US Air Force’s nine-year Minuteman Force Modernization Program governing the replacement of all deployed Minuteman I (A and B) ICBMs with either Minuteman II or Minuteman III missiles. The Air Force determined to replace the arsenal of Minuteman I ICBMs at the 91st Strategic Missile Wing with the military branch’s latest weapon system, Minuteman III.   The Minuteman III was the first US ICBM designed with the Multiple Independently targetable Re-entry Vehicle capability, or MIRV. This configuration allowed individual targeting upon release for each of the weapon’s three warheads.
