Last month, John Kao joined a panel of caregiving advocates and thought leaders including Allison J. Applebaum, Ph.D., FAPOS, a clinical psychologist who spoke about the mental and emotional toll caregiving takes – and the need for training and resilience resources to prevent burnout; Ai-jen Poo, co-founder and president of National Domestic Workers Alliance, who underscored the caregiving economy’s broader impact and the importance of investing in caregivers to strengthen the workforce and contribute to economic growth; and Sarah Jones, a Tony Award-winning playwright who shared personal stories that brought humanity to the data, reminding the audience that behind every statistic is a relationship – full of complexity, love and sacrifice. Wow! We had an energizing few days at #AHIP2025 last week! The conversations this year were truly transformative. First, Alignment Health President Dawn Maroney joined an incredible panel with industry leaders to tackle some big questions in health care. From collaborative payer-provider relationships to patient-focused care and the role of artificial intelligence (AI), we covered it all. One theme kept emerging: data access across the care continuum – not just more data, but aligning data. Then, Dr. Ken Kim, our chief medical officer, joined two panels exploring strategies to support aging members through preventive care, home-based services and integrated supports that reduce utilization and enhance quality of life. He also discussed real-world AI applications that are transforming health plan operations, from improving member service to enhancing care management. He shared valuable insights into Medicare population metrics and AI-driven improvement strategies.
