  • Hope fuels every mile. 💜🚴♀️ For Cathy Harm, Ride to End ALZ is more than a cycling event — it’s a personal mission to honor her loved ones and help advance Alzheimer’s research. Cathy took part in her first Ride in 2020, cycling 100 miles in memory of her mom, who passed from Alzheimer’s in 2010.  “I did it for my mom, but also for my family, friends, work family and for myself,” Cathy shares.  “My mom was my best friend and my biggest supporter.” Now preparing for her sixth Ride, Cathy’s story, while rooted in loss, is also a story of hope and action.  As Senior Vice President at H-E-B and Texas Event Chair for Ride to End ALZ since its launch in 2021, she’s helping lead efforts to reach a remarkable $1 million giving milestone through sponsorship and fundraising this year.   “I’ve always strived to stay physically healthy and wanted something I could genuinely look forward to,” Cathy says. “Friends encouraged me to try cycling - and to my surprise, I was hooked.  Since then, I’ve come to better understand the powerful connection between exercise and cognitive health.” But for Cathy, the Ride is about much more than physical wellness or even her own family’s experience.  “Sharing my story has made me realize I’m not alone.  So many people have been touched by Alzheimer’s.  In this community, I’ve found incredible strength, compassion and most importantly – hope.” Join Cathy and make an impact in the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all forms of dementia.  👉Register now to get the wheels in motion: alz.org/ride.

  • 💜 $3 MILLION STRONG 💜 We’re thrilled to share that Edward Jones, our 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Presenting Sponsor and Diamond National Team, has surpassed $3 million in fundraising for the year to help advance the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. This incredible achievement wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of more than 10,000 Edward Jones associates, clients and family members across the country who stepped up, walked and gave generously. Keep the momentum going, team! We are so grateful for your support.

  • GLP-1s, a class of drugs currently used to treat diabetes and weight management, may hold promise for early Alzheimer’s. 🔬 Two global Phase 3 clinical trials are currently underway to determine whether semaglutide — a GLP-1 drug sold under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus — can slow the progression of early Alzheimer’s. Could this be a turning point in treatment and disease management? Study results are expected later this year. If semaglutide proves effective, it would be the first drug originally approved for another condition to be repurposed and made available for Alzheimer's treatment. • At the intersection of public health and community empowerment, Gabriela Camberos Medina, MPH, is leading transformative work in Santa Clara County. As a public health leader with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, Gabriela heads a team dedicated to preventing poor oral health and type 2 diabetes—two conditions closely linked to increased risk of dementia. But her mission goes deeper: she’s working to reduce disparities in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias by strengthening the bridge between clinical care and community-based support. Gabriela’s approach is rooted in equity and innovation. Her team is advancing workforce development and promoting upstream solutions that address the root causes of chronic disease and cognitive decline. Through strategic partnerships and data-informed interventions, she is helping shape a healthier future for communities across the county. Now, Gabriela is preparing to launch a new community engagement project in South County, a region where disparities in Alzheimer’s and related dementias are especially pronounced. This initiative will focus on listening to community voices, building trust and co-creating solutions that reflect the lived experiences of residents. Her work is informed by her participation in the Alzheimer’s Association-led Risk Reduction Learning Collaborative, where she has drawn on evidence-based strategies to guide her efforts. The Alzheimer’s Association is proud to partner with leaders like Gabriela, whose vision and dedication are helping to reshape the landscape of dementia prevention and care. Her work exemplifies the power of collaboration, cultural humility, and community-driven change. #HispanicHeritageMonth
