In 2017, Debra was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia. She eventually needed a bone marrow transplant but faced challenges finding a donor. A mixed-match donor from Germany was eventually found, and in 2020 Debra underwent the transplant. Today, she’s doing well and credits research for making her treatment possible. Continued investment in NIH for research is vital to giving patients a second chance.
