About us
Founded in 1908, AnMed is an independent, not-for-profit health system serving Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia. It is licensed for 648 beds and anchored by AnMed Medical Center, a 495-bed acute-care hospital that’s earned the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 2012. Also included are a heart and vascular center, a maternity center and a comprehensive cancer center located in Anderson. The AnMed Piedmont campus opening in 2025 is among new locations for the growing system. AnMed Rehabilitation Hospital, AnMed Cannon in Pickens and more than 60 physician practices are also among service sites spread from Easley to Hartwell, Georgia. The system has 620 physicians on medical staff and about 3,600 employees. It is Anderson County’s largest private employer. Guided by core values of compassion, integrity, accountability, innovation and collaboration, AnMed was named one of the nation’s “Great Community Hospitals” by Becker’s Hospital Review. It is one of three systems in the nation to earn the 2024 Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award from the American Hospital Association. Learn more at AnMed.org. About 3,600 babies are born each year in South Carolina to mothers who used opioids during pregnancy, and they face challenges. To help, we’re partnering with Clemson University, Prisma Health and the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund to provide a family-centered program for infants at risk for opioid withdrawal, Managing Abstinence in Newborns, or the MAiN program. Anyone interested in enrolling in the program or anyone with questions about the program should call 864-870-7419 or email erika.massey@anmed.org. MAiN Nurse Navigators will be ready with next steps like care plans, hospital plans, breastfeeding support, treatment and recovery, community resources, and ways family can be involved. When discharge arrived for a long-term patient who’d been on 6 North for months with no family visitation or support, Sally and Sharon went above and beyond duty to provide compassion and care. They’d made a connection with the patient and wanted to keep her engaged. They brought her special items for assistance with daily care. They gave her magazines and treats. Sharon even took her over to our Medical Center gift shop to pick out items to take home. The teammates’ compassion and kindness made the patient feel special. For their efforts, alongside Peyton in Neurology, and Christina and Kaylynne of Adult Surgical and Pediatrics on 8 South, they’ve been named our #StarsOfTheMonth. Peyton grew alarmed recently when she read a patient’s MyChart message that had come in after hours. She realized intervention was needed sooner than later. She consulted with a coworker, and they called for EMS to perform a well check. EMS found the patient in a very dangerous state and rushed the patient to the emergency department for care. Dr. Hunter Hsu recognized Christina and Kaylynne recently for providing exceptional care to a postoperative patient. The patient had a special type of wound vac bandage on her knee that quit working when she got home. Christina and Kaylynne visited the patient’s home after their shift to evaluate and troubleshoot. They were able to get the wound vac working again so that the patient did not have to worry overnight and make another trip to the office. A fast heart rate can be completely normal, but there are instances when it can be a symptom of something serious. If a heart begins to race without a clear trigger, or if it occurs with chest pain, fainting or shortness of breath, it’s time to see a doctor.
