We are soliciting applicable, interesting, and/or novel presentations related to the following topics: In Situ Activated Carbon-Based Amendments: Assessing Effectiveness and Performance (Session 2c) - Derek Pizarro Low-Permeability Zone Treatment Approaches, Permeability Enhancements, and Case Studies (Session 4e) – Mike Mazzarese Remedy Implementation: Assessing Performance and Costs (Session 2b) – Duane Guilfoil Abstracts must be submitted through the online system (https://lnkd.in/ewbAGh8P) by October 27, 2025. Emailed abstracts will not be considered. The technical program scope may be found on pages 4-5 of the Call for Abstracts document on the Conference website. Details on preparing and submitting abstracts may be found on the Abstract Specifications & Submittal page on the Conference website. Select the pertinent name on the submittal form in the “Submission Requested By” drop-down box, to ensure that your abstract will be considered for our sessions. Final decisions on session placement and format are made by the program committee and Session Chairs and will be based on best overall design of the technical program. If you are unable to commit to presenting either a platform or a poster, based on the Program Committee’s final placement, please do not submit an abstract. Withdrawals and cancellations received after placement assignments have been made create a significant disruption to the technical program and degrade the overall Conference experience for all attendees. First "Fall" #Webinar from AST! Mitigating LNAPL Migration to Adjacent Surface Water Bodies Using Regenerative PRBs (Sep 16, 2025 12:00 PM EDT). Join us to learn about permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) which use a #bioremediation platform enhanced with an intrinsic capture mechanism (#activatedcarbon) and are injected via direct push technology (DPT). These installations are an option in many cases, as this type of biobarrier can be augmented post-installation to prolong the PRB lifespan, adjust with changes in plume and water body conditions, or adapt as/if other #remediation activities are undertaken or eliminated onsite. This presentation will highlight an innovative in-situ #remediation technique that has been used within the region and nationally to access challenging geologies such as weathered #bedrock, gravel, glacial till, and fill material where direct push technology (DPT) alone cannot be used due to shallow refusal. DPT is a staple of our work in the in-situ remediation field and provides rapid rod advancement for sampling or remediation purposes. However, even with larger and more powerful DPT rigs on the market, there are sites within the region where DPT cannot reach the terminating unconsolidated depth(s) of the contamination. Since injection wells cannot be used for all remedial amendments, in particular slurries, an alternative approach was developed that combines traditional drilling and DPT techniques. First, a traditional drilling unit (e.g. rotosonic or hollow stem auger) advances through the DPT refusal zone to the desired total depth. Secondly, the borehole is backfilled with hydrated bentonite and allowed to be cured 24-48 hours. Lastly, DPT is used to advance through the borehole and high energy injection techniques are used to emplace the reagent into the formation. As noted above, this technique has been successfully used on multiple sites within the region (NJ, NY and PA) to advance through weathered bedrock, gravel, #glacialtill, and fill material to treat both #chlorinatedsolvents and #petroleumhydrocarbons, including NAPL. AST is in Tennessee this week and safely managing good progress on a BOS 200+ (Remediation Products, Inc) injection project even in the heat. Earnest Hannah, Aaron Henley, and Brandon Gray are taking a #safetymoment to rest, cool, and hydrate; Boyd Gray is behind the camera. While the project has planned appropriately for this situation, here are some tips for staying safe in the heat. #worksafe out there everyone, everywhere! Stay Hydrated: Drink water frequently—at least one cup every 15–20 minutes—even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid caffeine. For longer durations, consider drinks with electrolytes. Take Frequent Breaks: Rest in shaded or cool areas regularly to prevent overheating. Rest allows the body to recover from heat stress. Use Cooling Measures: Use cooling towels, fans, or misting devices if available. Know the Signs of Heat Illness: Watch for symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headache, confusion, or excessive sweating. Respond immediately—heat stroke can be life-threatening. Buddy System: Work in pairs to monitor each other for signs of heat stress. Speak Up: If you feel unwell, inform your supervisor immediately.
