View a case study with a 70-year-old male with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN) involving ~90% total body surface area (TBSA). The patient presented with predominantly partial-thickness epidermal detachment of the bilateral upper and lower extremities, feet, trunk, and perineum, complicated by Pseudomonas colonization. On hospital day 5, the patient was taken to the operating room for non-excisional debridement of the detached skin, and PermeaDerm® was applied to the partial-thickness surfaces and affixed with staples. Reconstructive surgery is about so much more than closing wounds. It’s about restoring form and function and creating a result that protects, heals, and looks natural. It's about the quality of outcomes that translates to patient confidence and identity. In a new insights article post, reconstructive surgeon Corianne Rogers, MD, shares how autologous cell therapies are transforming wound healing. By combining flaps, skin grafts, and regenerative matrices with a patient’s own skin cells, surgeons are achieving: -More seamless blending of grafts and flaps -Faster healing and less donor site scarring -Natural pigmentation and aesthetic outcomes This isn’t just innovation at the margins — it’s a new and revolutionary approach to large and complex reconstructions. And it’s only the beginning. Read the full article, “Beyond Closing Wounds: The Science of Restoring Form and Function,” to see how surgeons are unlocking the body’s own healing potential to deliver better results for patients. https://hubs.ly/Q03Nv9SS0 #wound #healthcare #woundcare #woundmanagement #surgery #acutewound #reconstructivesurgery

Neil Mashruwala, MD, FACS, presented a case series at the recent Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) exploring the use of PermeaDerm as a low-maintenance dressing for burns and soft tissue injuries. Three patients with diverse wound types were treated successfully in outpatient settings, experiencing rapid healing (as little as 5 days, average 15 days), minimal pain, and the ability to maintain daily activities. The biosynthetic wound matrix (BWM) required few dressing changes, lifted naturally as wounds re-epithelialized, and allowed clinicians to monitor healing without disturbing the wound. These findings suggest BWM is an effective, patient-centered option for wound care, particularly beneficial in resource-limited settings.
