About us
Our story began in September of 1993 when TASER International was founded by CEO Rick Smith with his brother Tom Smith. They consulted with Jack Cover, former NASA scientist and inventor of the original TASER® conducted energy weapons of the 1970s. Rick Smith was inspired to found the company after losing two high school football teammates who were shot and killed in a road rage incident. This experience led him to seek new technologies that would enable people to protect themselves without deploying lethal force in hopes of creating a bullet-less world. Today, Axon represents the entire network of devices, applications and people that is revolutionizing public safety around the world. Our mission is to protect life. We’re building the world’s largest and most trusted suite of public safety solutions. If you are seeking a career with purpose, we invite you to join us. “I don’t know of any life that has been saved, any crash that has been averted, any criminals that have been arrested, any traffickers that have been arrested and children removed from human trafficking and child predators, while an officer is sitting in the office doing paperwork.” That’s the reality — lives are changed out in communities, not behind a desk. At the T-REX 25-2 event, we've joined forces with Overland AI to showcase the Pan-Tilt-Jam (PTJ) variant of our DedroneDefender on their Uncrewed Ground Vehicle (UGV) — demonstrating how today’s operators can mitigate drone threats from a safe, remote position. This mobile solution adds an extra layer of protection and helps keep warfighters out of harm’s way. By bringing together advanced counter-drone technology and the power of autonomy, we’re helping protect more lives in more places. #Axon #ProtectLife

Had an excellent day in Boston for the Safer Stores event, co-hosted by Auror, Axon and Axis Communications at Axon’s very cool Boston office. The focus of the workshops was on what’s working now, and what the future of store safety could look like. We had meaningful discussions on the role of real-time intelligence, collaboration with law enforcement, and smarter tech integrations. We heard firsthand how LPR VOI alerts are driving real impact. One customer shared a powerful example of how the Auror vehicle feed helped assist in a murder investigation. The Auror and evidence.com integration, along with the new Retail Crime Hub, drew strong interest. Auror and Axon are streamlining how retailers and law enforcement share intel and build cases, saving time and driving better outcomes. We wrapped with a night at Fenway. My first time at the park with hard to beat seats. I now fully understand why people say Red Sox fans are built different. Appreciate everyone who joined and shared openly. These conversations are what push the whole industry forward.

Through skilled de-escalation, teamwork and a successful TASER 10 deployment supported by lethal cover, officers were able to bring the child to safety and take the suspect into custody with no injuries to the child, officers or suspect. Captured on #AxonBodyCam, this moment is a powerful reminder of how real-time decisions and innovative tools can help ensure safer outcomes for families and communities in times of need. #Axon #ProtectLife
