Amid market volatility and capital constraints, last week’s Milken Institute Conference was a powerful reminder of the wave of innovation and emerging technologies reshaping our industry. Today's founders are building breakthroughs that are nothing short of inspiring. And venture is evolving to meet this moment, with new models emerging to support the next wave of category-defining companies. As I told Bloomberg’s Romaine Bostick, CFA and Carol Massar last week, the playbook of year’s past is no longer relevant. Companies are staying private longer and building for endurance, not quick exits. While this can pose a liquidity challenge for firms, it’s also a great opportunity. It validates a core insight on which Eduardo Saverin and I built B Capital : that global founders need venture partners who are in it for the long-haul and have the experience and resilience to scale companies from their earliest stages. The conversation was a continuation of The Future of Venture Capital, a panel I spoke on earlier in the week that unpacked the profound changes that are happening in venture right now—and where we think we’re going as an industry. From investing in fundamentally transformative technologies to the normalization of volatility and the complexity of building companies for tomorrow, we all agreed that it’s an exciting time to be in this business.
