This Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the stories, strength, and enduring spirit of Indigenous communities. Their deep traditions of healing and connection inspire us at Back on My Feet to continue building circles of support where every individual is seen, valued, and uplifted. Let’s honor the past by walking together toward a more just and compassionate future. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #BackOnMyFeet #HealingInMotion

Makes Moves that Matter
About us
Back on My Feet empowers people to achieve economic independence through fitness and community. Operating in 16 cities nationwide, Back on My Feet recruits members at homeless shelters and rehabilitation facilities. Our members begin their journey by committing to run or walk 2-3 days a week and when they are ready, move on to educational support, job training programs, employment partnership referrals, and housing resources. Since 2007, Back on My Feet has served more than 15,000 individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness and engaged more than 150,000 volunteers and supporters. Our members have run a collective 950,000+ miles and obtained more than 15,000 jobs and homes. With your support, the communities we build together around the U.S. serve as lifelong support systems, removing shame and isolation. It’s about the drive, grit, and courage to take that first step toward a new life. And while it may not be an easy road, we’re there every step of the way. Get involved to make moves that matter today.

This weekend, the Back on My Feet community came together in Chicago to celebrate determination, resilience, and the transformative power of running. On Saturday, we gathered at the Willis Tower for our Chicago Marathon Brunch, honoring the incredible athletes who have raised funds and awareness to support our mission. The highlight of the morning was a powerful member panel, where individuals shared how Back on My Feet’s program has helped them rebuild their lives through community, connection, and commitment. And today, our team is out along the Chicago Marathon course, cheering on our FundRacers as they take on 26.2 miles with each step fueling change and hope for our members nationwide. A heartfelt thank you to every runner, donor, volunteer, and partner who makes this possible. Together, we’re proving that running and community can change lives, one mile at a time. #BackOnMyFeet #ChicagoMarathon #FundRacing #CorporateSocialImpact #CommunityInAction #RunForChange

At Back on My Feet, we believe that real change starts when we stop waiting for “somebody” to do something and realize we are the somebody. Our founder, Anne Mahlum, has shown what’s possible when we confront homelessness with compassion, community, and action. As Bill Courtney challenges us, the call is to “match our skillset with our passion in an area of opportunity.” For us, that opportunity is helping our community break the cycle of homelessness through running which fosters hope, dignity, and the tools to rebuild lives. Together, we’re not just talking about solutions, we’re running toward them. 52% of Americans don’t believe we can solve our country’s problems. Bill Courtney calls this The Great Disillusionment. His answer? An Army of Normal Folks stepping off the sidelines to help their communities.
