7 takeaways on creating real business impact with AI, from Christophe De Vusser's conversation at Dreamforce. #DF25
Business transformation is the goal, AI is the means. Thank you to Parker Harris and Marc Benioff at Salesforce for the invitation to Bain’s Worldwide Managing Partner Christophe De Vusser to discuss creating real business impact with AI. It was a great conversation and a wonderfully engaged audience. Chatham house rules apply, but here are some highlights: 1) The goal is not AI transformation, the goal is business transformation. The core driving force in all of this is creating sustainable competitive advantage – whether in your value proposition or your operational profile. 2) If you are at use cases, you are at too low an altitude – you must transform domains within a company. That is the only way to actually realize real value. 3) Companies are living organisms – Part 1. A huge amount of the business processes that make them work is informal and unwritten. You must understand the real business process to modernize it. Unstructured data is a major unlock for this. 4) Companies are living organisms – Part 2. For AI-powered change to stick it must be co-created by the people doing the jobs. Look at what your frontier teams are doing for clues on how this really works. 5) Once you have the AI roadmap, flip the pyramid, and look at the people who will be impacted. The ability of people to absorb change is finite – don’t pour water on saturated sponges. 6) It is the responsibility of the CEO to make the organization fit for the future. What cannot be avoided should not be delayed. If AI is in your future, now is the time to move in earnest. Probably faster. 7) The customer is the north star. When you are stuck, ask yourself: How do I change the relationship with and outcomes for our customers? #DF25
