"Empower personal excellence in every learner.”
About us
The Barrington 220 School District is a nationally recognized preK-12 school district, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The school district is geographically located in four counties: Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry. Barrington 220 has one high school, two middle school campuses for grades 6-8, eight elementary schools, one early childhood center, and a transition center for special education students who are 18-22 years old. The first Barrington school was a one-room schoolhouse, which opened in 1835. However, it wasn’t until 1973 that the Barrington 220 School District officially formed. Since then Barrington 220 has become known for its innovative curriculum, rich history, and sense of community. Our mission is to empower personal excellence in every learner. Our schools have earned a total of 12 National Blue Ribbon Awards and nearly 90% of our teachers have earned a master’s degree or higher.

This week, we launched the 2025–26 school year in unforgettable fashion at our Staff Opening Day, a celebration of learning, connection, and inspiration! From the warm welcome by the BHS Band and Color Guard, to the powerful performances by student and staff actors, choirs, and musicians, the energy in the room was special. A big thank you to our incredible BHS-TV students, who brought the production to life behind the scenes and on screen. We heard opening remarks from Dr. Craig Winkelman, who shared the important initiatives guiding our district this year. And we’re deeply grateful to our guest speakers: Thomas C. Murray, Dr. John Spencer, Phil Herman, Ty Gorman, and Joe Robinson. Their sessions focused on: • Creating authentic learning spaces • Empowering students through design thinking and authentic learning • Understanding the art and science of appreciation • Leveraging Edtech to deepen authentic engagement Each message reminded us of our collective mission: to foster a culture where both students and staff thrive. Thank you to everyone who made Opening Day a success. Here's to an amazing school year ahead!
