Missouri saw a 27% drop in overdose deaths between January 2024 and January 2025, outpacing national progress. At our OTPs in Cape Girardeau, St. Joseph, St. Charles, and St. Louis, we’re seeing more patients enter and stay in treatment, with fewer missed doses and fentanyl positives. Policy changes that expanded take-home methadone doses and telehealth options have helped personalize care and drive these outcomes. But sustaining this progress depends on continued access to #Medicaid, which covers the majority of our patients. Treatment costs over $500/month per patient. Without Medicaid, many simply couldn’t afford recovery. As policymakers consider Medicaid cuts or new restrictions, we must protect access to what’s working, and saving lives. "If I didn't have Medicaid and the help of the system, I wouldn't have been able to do it alone." Jodie Montplaisir's story is a powerful reminder of how vital Medicaid is for people in addiction recovery. "I really stuck in with the clinic and doing all of the meetings, all the groups, all my therapy, just really utilizing the clinic … and they really helped me." With the comprehensive care provided at opioid treatment programs (OTP), proposed barriers to Medicaid could prevent access to this lifesaving treatment. Jodie’s voice matters — and so does protecting this critical support system.
55% of #Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) patients rely on #Medicaid for access to lifesaving recovery treatment. One patient, Jodie Montplaisir, shares her redemptive story that showcases how Medicaid is lifeline for people in recovery to access treatment and worries about the potential negative impact that work requirements, copays, and red tape could have in keeping people from treatment. “Medicaid is there to help us ... how we supposed to work if we’re trying to get sober?” Montplaisir said. “If I had to have paid money while I’m trying to get sober or having to work while I’m trying to get sober, it wouldn’t work.”Read more about her story: https://lnkd.in/es48cv_K
