  • Nuclear energy is taking shape in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Bechtel continued construction at the Natrium® Advanced Reactor Demonstration project by raising the first steel at the Test and Fill Facility (TFF). This nearly 750-ton superstructure—roughly equal to the weight of four empty Boeing 747 aircrafts—will house first-of-a-kind systems for the Natrium technology. Designed by TerraPower, the Natrium reactor combines a sodium-cooled fast reactor with a molten salt energy storage system. The TFF is where concept meets reality. It’s the final testing ground that will help transform the Natrium reactor into reliable, flexible, emission-free power for the 21st-century grid. With more than 70 years of nuclear expertise, Bechtel is the only EPC contractor to successfully bring 21st-century nuclear plants online in the U.S. The Natrium project is the next chapter in this legacy—advancing innovation into real-world power generation. • ♻️ A historic first: the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site has safely converted nuclear waste into stable glass through vitrification.   Bechtel designed, built, and commissioned the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) at the Hanford Vit Plant, the world's largest and most advanced radioactive waste treatment facility. With vitrification now underway, nuclear waste left over from the Manhattan Project and the Cold War is being stabilized for safe, permanent disposal—reducing long-term environmental risks and protecting the Columbia River for generations to come.   🗣️ "This milestone represents the realization of a vision shared by many," shared president of Bechtel's Nuclear, Security & Environmental business, Dena Volovar. "It reflects decades of teamwork, innovation, and partnership with our customer to solve one of the nation's most complex environmental challenges—safely and permanently. Together with the Department of Energy, the state of Washington, our labor partners, local suppliers, subcontractors, and world-class scientific experts, we've turned vitrification into a reality at Hanford. It's an important step forward in protecting the Columbia River, surrounding communities, and future generations."   Learn more: 🔗https://lnkd.in/gwyQWxBK

  • 🌏 Three LNG plants. One island. A milestone in global energy. 📅 On this day: In 2016, Bechtel completed one of the most ambitious energy undertakings in our history: bringing the final LNG train online at Curtis Island, just off the coast of Queensland, Australia. From concept to completion, our teams delivered three LNG plants for three customers—Queensland Curtis LNG, Gladstone LNG, and Australia Pacific LNG—the largest group of new facilities we’ve ever built in one place. ⚡ Producing 25 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas annually 🌏 Supplying energy to China, Korea, Japan, and Malaysia 🏆 Recognized as Engineering News-Record’s 2016 Global Best Project Award The Curtis Island program stands as a benchmark in LNG megaproject delivery—positioning Australia as a global LNG leader and proving what’s possible with innovation, safety, and collaboration. • 🔑🛫 Smart delivery. Strong partnerships. As the delivery partner for Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), Bechtel reimagined passenger travel across the region—and delivered the project on budget and 7 months early. ⬆️ This achievement at WSI—one of the largest greenfield aviation projects in the world—is the value Bechtel brings as a delivery partner. In an interview with New Civil Engineer, Darren Mort, president of Bechtel’s Infrastructure business, shared how Bechtel oversaw every detail of WSI’s delivery: managing design and construction, contractor procurement, budget, and scheduling. We brought together six major work packages—from early earthworks and runway pavement to the terminal complex and landside facilities—into one integrated, operational airport. 🗣️💭 So how did we achieve success? Darren put it like this: “Scope definition, getting the baseline established early on, having a clear vision of what needs to be delivered, and then being committed to that vision and mission are really important. And then I think it’s back to where we began, which is around the right delivery structures and having a fit-for-purpose customer organisation that is focused and engaging the best in the supply chain and the industry in a way that is driven by the right incentives, the right structure, and the right delivery focus.” Delivery models are at the heart of what we do—and WSI shows how, together with our customers, Bechtel brings complex megaprojects online safely, reliably, and ahead of schedule. 📰 Read Darren’s full interview here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/epGyCmt4

🚆 On This Day: 200 Years of Rail On September 27, 1825, the world’s first modern railway opened in the U.K., sparking a transportation revolution. Bechtel’s legacy began in 1898, grading railroad beds in Oklahoma. Since then, we’ve delivered more than 250 rail projects worldwide, building and commissioning over 10,000 km of track—roughly the distance from London to Lima, Peru. That includes 500 km of tunnels and more than 700 stations. From the Channel Tunnel to the Elizabeth Line, Sydney Metro to NYC's Penn station improvements, and most recently, the Riyadh Metro—the largest metro system ever built in a single-phase—our work continues to reimagine mobility, connect communities, and unlock opportunity across the globe. As rail celebrates its 200th anniversary, we’re proud to be part of its past and to continue building its future. #Railway200 💡 Rail isn’t just history—it’s the future. 🎉Today, Bechtel was recognized on Fortune’s 2025 Change the World List, proving that when engineering and construction is done with purpose—it can change the world. 🌎   Bechtel projects combine innovation with impact—delivering practical solutions to global challenges. A great example: Bechtel’s Low Energy Ejector Desalination System (or LEEDS)—a breakthrough, cost-effective, and energy-efficient technology that transforms produced water from oil and gas operations into a usable resource for farms, industries, and communities—advancing environmental goals and preserving precious water supply. At scale, LEEDS could recover enough clean water to meet the daily needs of Midland, Texas, a water-stressed community in the Permian Basin.   “Our purpose has always been bigger than the projects we deliver,” shared Bechtel chairman and CEO Brendan Bechtel. “Bechtel’s legacy is defined by taking on the world’s toughest challenges and delivering results that transform communities and industries. What truly sets Bechtel apart is its people—the extraordinary teams who tackle the impossible and achieve what others cannot.”   This recognition reflects the dedication of our people and the partnerships that make projects like these possible. Or, as Brendan puts it: “We are privileged to do this work that touches lives around the world.” 👏 Learn more: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eqzYdCu6 #ChangetheWorld

  • 🚧⬆️ Thacker Pass is going vertical. Bechtel ironworkers recently set the first structural steel column for the Lithium Americas Corp. processing facility in Nevada—marking the start of above-ground construction of the processing plant. The 7,000-pound column is the first of more than 18,000 tons of steel that will form the backbone of the facility. Once complete, this facility will help power up to 800,000 EVs a year, strengthening domestic supply chains and marking another step toward U.S. energy independence. 🏃♀️➡️ Catch up quick: Bechtel is managing the construction of the 642-acre plant complex with 600,000 square feet of processing plant buildings, administrative buildings, roads, utilities, and associated infrastructure. And we're partnering with unions, and dozens of suppliers and vendors, many of them in Nevada, to complete the job. 👏 Congratulations to our customer Lithium Americas Corp., our partners at the North America's Building Trades Unions, and our Bechtel teams around the world for making this milestone possible.
