  • Across Africa, young people are using digital tools to turn creative skills into real careers. In music, design, gaming, and storytelling, they're finding new ways to reach audiences, earn income, and build livelihoods that reflect their talent. Jobtech Alliance has launched the Digital Creative Industry Sector Scan (2025), mapping over 60 platforms across Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, and Uganda that are redefining how digital platforms create work opportunities for Africa's creators. • 🚀 Just launched: New gender brief on innovating and investing at the gender–climate nexus in Africa. Women are helping design and deliver the climate solutions of the future, and their inclusion can transform entire markets. When women's perspectives shape design, distribution, and investment decisions, climate solutions become more relevant, more widely adopted, and more sustainable. This brief captures that opportunity. It explores how women are already participating across climate value chains and outlines how funders, policymakers, accelerators, and ecosystem actors can build inclusive and resilient climate markets. • For millions of gig workers across India, a single accident can mean days without income and repair costs that strain already tight budgets. Insurance isn't a luxury; it's a lifeline that protects their ability to work and earn. Yet, for many, access to meaningful coverage remains out of reach. To address this, BFA Global, in partnership with Entitled Solutions, conducted research with gig drivers, platforms, and insurers to understand the barriers they face, from low awareness and affordability challenges to rigid payment structures and mistrust. Based on these insights, we're developing a commercial motor vehicle insurance blueprint that focuses on solutions that are inclusive, practical, and aligned with the realities of gig work. • 𝐁𝐅𝐀 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 10! Yesterday, the BFA Global Kenya team came together with partners, stakeholders, alumni, and friends to celebrate ten years of innovation, resilience, and impact. It was a chance to look back on how far we’ve come and chart an inspiring path forward. We also took a moment to welcome our new Managing Director, Prateek Shrivastava, as he leads BFA Global into its next chapter of growth, and to celebrate Amolo Ngweno as she steps into her new role as Chair, continuing to shape our mission and vision. From our beginnings in 2006, when David Porteous founded 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 to make financial systems more inclusive, our journey has evolved to embrace #climateresilience, #sustainablelivelihoods, and #inclusiveinnovation. • Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, putting small businesses and vulnerable communities at risk. Building resilience requires more than recovery funding. It means providing financial tools that help entrepreneurs prepare, adapt, and rebuild quickly. At Climate Week NYC 2025, our CEO, Amolo Ngweno, joined leaders from PayPal, Women's World Banking, The Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, and Mercy Corps Ventures to discuss how inclusive finance can strengthen small business resilience in the face of climate shocks. This blog highlights key insights from the panel, including how financial innovation, collaboration, and tailored solutions can help small enterprises recover faster and emerge stronger after disasters. Yesterday, our TECA Director, Tyler Ferdinand, attended the Tech for Impact Summit in Tokyo. The summit brought together experts, investors, startups, and changemakers who are using technology to solve humanity's biggest challenges. Participants explored AI-powered health solutions and breakthroughs in biomedical computing, offering valuable insights into how innovation will define the next era of progress. Key takeaways: - The world is shifting toward preventative health systems that prioritize access, early action, and resilience. - Technology acts as an enabler, driving progress across critical areas such as health access, chronic disease management, and infrastructure development. - African markets face similar realities, where resource shortages and fragmented markets create both challenges and opportunities, including telecare and cross-border medical support. For TECA Nigeria's Heat Action Wave, these lessons are especially relevant. Extreme heat is increasingly a health systems challenge, not just an environmental one. By expanding access, strengthening prevention, and enabling early action through technology and shared expertise, we can build heat resilience before crises hit.
