The health care tax credit has kept high-quality coverage within reach for Americans and their families since 2021. But if Congress doesn’t act soon, it will go away later this year. See what will happen if time runs out: https://lnkd.in/gr_-ppr4

If Congress lets the health care tax credit expire, millions of Americans could lose health coverage, and small business owners are particularly at risk. Amanda, a small business owner from Idaho, relies on the health care tax credit to keep her insurance coverage affordable. See how premiums for her—and other self-employed individuals—could be impacted if Congress doesn’t act soon: https://lnkd.in/gAPtHgrS

If Congress doesn’t act, the affordability crisis will deepen for millions of Americans. Without the health care tax credit, premiums will spike by an average of 93% starting in January 2026. Millions of Americans rely on this credit to afford coverage. More than 57 million privately insured adults now qualify for GLP-1 drugs, but what does this mean for employer health plan costs? As demand for GLP-1 medications surges, new research from Employee Benefit Research Institute reveals that even short-term use can drive up pharmacy spending and impact premiums because the cost of these drugs is so high. According to our research, most patients discontinue treatment before 12 weeks, yet the financial impact remains significant. Employers are exploring solutions, from pairing coverage with nutrition and behavioral health support to alternative payment models that hold manufacturers accountable for results. One example of this is our partnership with CivicaScript, which aims to bring affordable, transparent pricing to high-impact medications. It’s common—and a good thing—for people with health insurance to not file a claim. That often means they’re healthy! And younger people, who typically use less care, may not file many claims at all. This holds true across both employer-sponsored coverage and the individual marketplace. Thanks to the health care tax credit, more people under 35 are covered through the individual marketplace, strengthening the risk pool and lowering costs for everyone. The Individual Marketplace is a vital source of health care coverage for more than 23 million Americans, and the health care tax credit has helped keep coverage within reach. Our latest data backs this up: https://lnkd.in/eqeUCBnr
