Brinks Home IT leaders - Philip Kolterman, Mike Coogan, Derek Mouriz, and Kenneth H. - were recently featured in a live global webinar hosted by Expedient, Brinks Home’s Disaster Recovery Data Center partner, to showcase how innovation, preparation, and the right partnerships can turn risk into resilience. Titled “A Blueprint for Resilience”, the session spotlighted how our IT team successfully executed a large-scale data center migration in support of the upcoming headquarters exit without disrupting service for customers. The discussion highlights how modern disaster recovery is no longer just an insurance policy - it can be a foundation for operational agility and long-term growth. DRaaS doesn’t magically give you resilience. It gives you a place to run — but you still have to engineer the escape plan. We recently shared our story with Expedient in “Brinks Home Security: A Blueprint for Resilience” — describing how a mandatory HQ exit forced us to make Disaster Recovery real, fast, and repeatable. The headline lesson: You don’t just “implement DR.” You operationalize failover — end-to-end — until it becomes boring. The Catalyst We had an opportunity (and a deadline) to move our physical data center. We needed an approach that could sustain production operations while we moved the physical reality underneath it. Huge thanks to former Brinks Home leaders like Matt H. and Jack Hill, who saw this vision early on and laid the groundwork for the partnership that made this possible. The "War Stories" (What the diagrams don't tell you) During the migration, we found that "Hidden Dependencies" are always bigger than the architecture slide. Even vendor-hosted systems often route through internal API layers and DNS patterns—meaning they are in your blast radius during DR tests. The Execution: Platform Engineering & Runbooks We approached this like a production release pipeline: * Start small: Low-risk scope, prove repeatability, then expand. * Treat DNS as a first-class citizen: We leaned on scripted DNS failover + verification, not tribal knowledge. * Validate: We invested in runbooks so we could execute consistently, not heroically. The Team This was a massive team sport. While I had the privilege of discussing the strategy on air with Philip Kolterman (CIO), Mike Coogan (CISO), and Derek Mouriz (Director of Network & Telecom), the engine of progress was the folks doing the keyboard work. A massive shout-out to the engineers who built the runbooks, wrote the scripts, and stayed on the bridge until every last App was validated: Patrick Ton • Jason Davis • Bhaskar Ajmeera • Taylor Burkey • Andrew Young • Matt Marse • Andrew Day • Matthew Sanders • Faisal Qureshi • Tanmaya Bhatt • Sammy Hussein • David Finkelstein • Mrugank Dalal • Douglas Bianchi • Brian Lunseth • Brandon Boehme • Bijay Shah • Kyle Simek • Joni Chapas • David Chapates + the rest of the Brinks Home IT Infrastructure (DBA/Net/Sys/Tel), Info Sec Ops, Service Desk, and Enterprise Testing & QA! And thank you to AJ Kuftic and Catherine Nelson Rudolph at Expedient for hosting us! Also shout outs to Ben U. from Service Delivery, and Sundown Sirimarco and Jacob Figueroa from our account team! 🤜🤛 Watch the full session here: ▶️ YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gWu49N79 Live event page: https://lnkd.in/gcUCUePU Discussion If you’re building DR right now, I’d love to compare notes: What’s the one “hidden dependency” that blew up your first real failover test? Drop it in the comments. #DisasterRecovery #PlatformEngineering #SRE #Infrastructure #BrinksHome #Resilience #TechLeadership

💡 What will matter most in CX this year? The ability to embrace change, not wait for it to settle. As Philip Kolterman, CIO at Brinks Home, puts it: the organizations that win will be the ones willing to make small bets, test quickly, and run toward change instead of away from it. In a landscape evolving this fast, speed and experimentation are becoming the real competitive advantage.
