It's been an insightful week attending Button 2025! 💜 No one does a virtual conference as well as the Button crew, and DJ Jason brings the best music mixes to the virtual stage. I closed out the week feeling inspired, connected, and ready to bring my newly acquired knowledge back to my team next week. So, what an incredible 3 days I've had at the Button content conference. What stood out for me? Everyone is being relatively scrappy about AI in content at the moment. Even leaders in large companies with very mature teams. We GenXers feel quite at home in this new world. There's a lot to learn, but we must keep focused on what we do know, and what we can contribute right now. Also, I was struck by one of the content leaders saying they don't spend their weekends working on AI things. I wish I could say the same. In related news - I'm going to start doing demo's of Narratology legal & financial content's beta plain-language assessment tool and will be recruiting for our first user group. If you're interested, DM me please. This year, we've offered over 90 percent of training and consultancy for free. But there is a charge to join the user group. We're on an incredibly exciting journey and need committed partners to join us. “So bring your taste, bring your standards, bring your brass tacos, and start measuring what matters.” At #Button2025, Emily Wachowiak spoke to content designers’ ability to recognize and refine AI content quality. We already have the pattern recognition and the systems thinking to know when content is off and how to fix it. Now, we can apply that to evaluating AI output. (Full context: A real-life text message in the presentation showed an example of auto-correct changing the phrase “brass tax” to “brass tacos,” which is very fitting for Button.)

In this talk, Jordana Well showed #Button2025 attendees how to get their generative AI prompt “ducks” in a row.

“How do we deal with an industry that’s moving faster than we can keep up? What happens when AI starts changing us as much as we change it? And what role should content design play in shaping that future?” During this #Button2025 talk, Amrita Saraogi advocates for content design’s role in shaping human-centered generative AI experiences.

At AI Focus Day, Laura Palotie shared how the content design team at Google Shopping developed a framework for communicating the presence of AI in clear, benefit-forward ways. Rather than leading with technical or marketing jargon, they focused on what users actually value: clarity, usefulness, and trust. #Button2025
