  • The Front Street Interceptor Rehabilitation project has been awarded the 2024 Trenchless Technology Magazine Project of the Year for Rehabilitation. This $18.4 million project restored approximately 2.7 miles of the sewer interceptor between Seneca Street and the I-83 bridge in Harrisburg. The 114-year-old Front Street Sewer Interceptor plays a crucial role in transporting combined flow (wastewater and stormwater) from half of the City of Harrisburg and Susquehanna Township to CRW’s Front Street Pumping Station situated at 830 S. Front Street. Ever since its construction in 1911, the interceptor has been essential in conveying wastewater and stormwater to the Front Street Pumping Station, and ultimately reaching the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWTF). Presently, almost 4 million gallons flow through the interceptor daily, with volumes surging to nearly 20 million gallons during certain wet weather events. CRW routinely conducts inspections and maintenance on the Front Street Interceptor to ensure its reliability. The project was also one (of several) EPA Partial Consent Decree ‘early action’ projects, helping CRW to improve Susquehanna River water quality and reduce combined sewer overflow volumes in the sewer system.

I am thankful to attend another North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) No-Dig Show with assistance from their Municipal Scholarship program. The technical content and networking opportunities are amazing. This year I was honored to accept the 2024 Rehabilitation Project of the Year for our Front St. Interceptor Rehab Project! Thanks to the project team including Chris Macey with AECOM and Andrew Costa with Insituform, who joined me in a technical presentation of the project. These individuals and their teams made this project a huge success! Also a special shout out to Chris Macey for being recognized as NASTT's 2025 Person of the Year! (I even found a water storage tank while hiking the Flat Iron mountains of Boulder 💧) #nodig #NASTT
