And it's a wrap on the European Humanitarian Forum 2025! Over two powerful days, CARE and some of our partners from Uganda, DRC, Venezuela, the Philippines, and Ukraine, came together to help give light to the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. 🤝 We joined NGOs, donors, UN agencies, political and community leaders to: ✅ Advocate for humanitarian responses led by affected communities ✅ Push for more flexible, long-term funding to aid work ✅ Spotlight the links between humanitarian crisis, climate change, and equality for women and girls ✅ Bridge the gap between humanitarian aid and long-term development This year’s Forum was a clear call for action and accountability. CARE International
Non-profit Organizations
We fight poverty and social injustice across the world, focusing particularly on women and girls.
About us
CARE International is a leading global humanitarian confederation fighting poverty and social injustice across more than 100 countries. For nearly 80 years, we have worked alongside communities to create lasting, transformative change through locally-led solutions. At the heart of our mission is the empowerment of women and girls. The reason for this is simple: we cannot overcome poverty and injustice until all people can access equal rights and opportunities. When women are equipped with the right resources and opportunities, they become powerful catalysts for change, helping entire families and communities break free from poverty. Join us in our mission to create a world of hope, inclusion, and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live in dignity and security. We are deeply saddened by the news of the killing of two staff members of CARE's partner organization in Gaza, Juzoor for Health and Social Development. Yahya Shihab, who worked as a nurse, and Ahmed Khilla, a driver with Juzoor, were killed along with their families in airstrikes last week on Jabalia camp, in the north of the Strip. Yahya and Ahmed join at least 430 aid workers who have been killed since October 7, 2023. They were heroically serving their communities despite the many grave dangers they faced for more than 19 months, including relentless bombing, displacement, destruction, and starvation. CARE once again calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, for the full and unhindered access to people who desperately need aid, and ultimately, there must be accountability to International Humanitarian Law. Hostages must be released.

Decreased funding = increased suffering.💔 In #Somalia, funds to support millions of people who don't have enough to eat have dropped to dangerously low levels - around only 3%. This isn’t a budget cut. It’s a cut to survival. Here’s what decreased funding means in real terms:👇 ❗ Health centers shutting down mid-crisis ❗ Malnourished children turned away due to medicine shortages ❗ Mothers walking hours, only to find empty clinics ❗ Local aid workers forced to say: “We can’t help you today.” We’re not short on solutions. We’re short on political will and financial commitment. CARE urges the international community to act now — to close the funding gap, meet the scale of this crisis, and prevent a catastrophic loss of life.

CARE International joins over 100 organisations calling for urgent help to pull Yemen back from the brink of catastrophe. Yemen is facing one of its worst years yet. War, economic collapse, and climate shocks have worsened what was already a dire crisis, while funding to support humanitarian aid has been massively reduced. Right now, the UN and NGOs have only 10% of what is needed to help millions of people in need this year. Despite major challenges, including insecurity and restrictions on aid, humanitarian organizations are still on the ground delivering food, clean water, healthcare, protection, and education. But without immediate funding, this vital work cannot continue. We urge the international community to: - Scale up flexible, timely, and predictable funding, particularly for local organisations - Increase development assistance must be scaled up to prevent communities sliding into crisis - Ensure respect for international humanitarian law, including protection of civilians and humanitarian access We cannot let the people of Yemen be forgotten. As leaders meet at the Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting, now is the moment to ACT. Words alone won't save lives. From April 29 to May 2, Dr. Deepmala Mahla, CARE’s Chief Humanitarian Officer, visited eastern DRC—at a time when the region is facing deepening conflict and humanitarian needs. During her visit to Goma and Sake, Deepmala met with displaced women, local partners, and humanitarian actors, listening to powerful stories of survival, strength, and repeated displacement. Her reflections highlight the urgent need for sustainable peace, stronger support for local women-led organizations, and collective humanitarian action. 📍From field visits with returnee communities to high-level exchanges with OCHA and FONGI, this visit reaffirmed CARE’s commitment to stand with those most affected—especially women and girls.

Interested in knowing more about how to build the financial health of women entrepreneurs? Check out this great report by our WE Finance Code global partner CARE International and Mastercard Strive . Thanks for sharing Sarah Hewitt
Director of Programs & Partnerships - Women and Youth, Social & Economic Justice, International Development
We've been listening, learning, and co-creating with women entrepreneurs for more than a year now, so I'm proud to share our baseline research for Strive Women, a program focused on improving the financial health of women entrepreneurs. 2,475 entrepreneurs in Pakistan, Peru and Vietnam, shared both hard data and honest insight. Here are four things that stood out: 1) Resilience is limited: Only half of women entrepreneurs say they could keep their business running for more than three months after a shock. Yet, few have access to tailored insurance or savings mechanisms. We're working with local partners to change that – with better savings products and more inclusive financial tools. 2) Financial confidence is high – but practices can improve: Many are tracking expenses and setting goals, but personal and business finances often blur. We're supporting stronger habits and introducing digital tools that build capacity one step at a time. 3) Confidence doesn't translate to access: While 83% feel confident in their abilities, many still struggle to access credit or networks. That’s why we’re investing in mentorship, tailored loans, and strong business communities. 4) Mental load matters: Women entrepreneurs carry the weight of caregiving, business, and family. They’re not just managing businesses –they’re managing everything. Our pilots in childcare, mental health, and shared household responsibilities aim to strengthen support systems. These findings provide the CARE Women's Entrepreneurship team more clarity on how to make market systems work better for women entrepreneurs. 👉 Check out the 8-page learning summary (or dive deeper into the full report) #StriveWomen #WomenEntrepreneurs #HerFinancialFuture #AccelerateAction Tanvi Jaluka, Tyler Tappendorf, Rathi Mani-Kandt, Leah Nathan, Andrea Duran Sanchez, Elizabeth O., CARE Pakistan ,CARE Perú, CARE in Vietnam

📣 Now Hiring: MOM (a.k.a. the world’s most demanding and most underappreciated job) No salary. No vacation. No retirement. Just round-the-clock duties, infinite love, and superhuman strength. While Mother's Day is celebrated on different days around the world, the care, labour, and love mothers give deserve recognition every single day. Today, we honour the incredible women who take on this lifelong role — as caregivers, chefs, therapists, teachers, nurses, chauffeurs, and so much more. Let’s not only thank them — let’s recognise that their LABOR IS WORK. It fuels families, communities, and entire economies. It’s time we value unpaid care as the cornerstone of a thriving #CareEconomy. Happy Mother’s Day, today and every day. 🧡

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) | Renewed violence in early 2025 in eastern #DRC has added a new layer of suffering and complexity to this prolonged humanitarian crisis. Since January, over 1.15 million people have been displaced in North and South Kivu alone. #Women are disproportionately affected, facing hunger and violence while leading community efforts and protecting their families. Despite their crucial role, local women-led organisations remain underfunded. Meanwhile, insecurity severely restricts humanitarian access. A 200 km journey between cities now takes two days. “The people of eastern DRC are not just facing a humanitarian crisis — they are living through it every single day.”- Dr. Deepmala Mahla, CARE's Chief Humanitarian Officer. This crisis demands more than attention: it requires urgent, sustained, and coordinated action where peace is a committed reality, not just a promise.

Today is #VEDay and marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War. In the two years after the war ended, 6.6 million CARE packages were sent out. Tim Thomas - now 84 - recalls receiving one of the packages as a child. We had the pleasure of meeting Tim in our UK office and hearing firsthand about the impact receiving a CARE package while living on strict rations made in his life: “If that whole period has left me with anything, it’s the feeling that a total stranger held out his hand in generosity when we needed help.” These acts of kindness were an early form of international aid - delivered not just by governments but by individuals to people in need across the world. As aid budgets are slashed in the UK and around the world, stories like Tim's remind us of the difference that international solidarity across borders and aid can make to a person's life. Foreign aid remains as vital today as 80 years ago. Read more on CARE and VE Day: https://lnkd.in/epHUgQpz #VEDay80 #80Years #WW2 #SecondWorldWar #VEDay #VE
