Join CareerVillage.org's own rebecca gitomer, CPA, Opportunity@Work's Natalia Lara, SkillUp Coalition's Steven Lee, and Jobcase, Inc.'s Fred Goff as we discuss how AI-powered #CareerNavigation tools are opening doors for #STARs, or job seekers who don’t have traditional degrees but DO have the right combination of skills and experience to succeed. This wide-ranging conversation will explore how AI can accelerate skills-based hiring and mobility for STARs, the types of things that job seekers are using AI for, trending/popular career paths for STARs, and much more. We’ll ask frank questions about what’s working, what’s not working, and what it will take to build STAR-inclusive AI tools that truly expand upward mobility. If you're building in this space, investing in alternative talent pipelines, or scaling hiring beyond traditional credentials, we’d love to see you there! I spent an hour today working on a single prompt. Did I reduce demand for labor, or increase it? And what does the distinction mean for the future of the labor market? #ai #bpa #futureofwork

In “Why Funders Freeze on AI—and How to Break the Paralysis,” CareerVillage.org executive director Jared Chung dives into Center for Effective Philanthropy's new AI With Purpose report and unpacks why, even as nearly 90% of nonprofits want to use AI, most foundations aren’t yet supporting that work. The piece offers practical, field-tested guidance from CareerVillage’s own experience implementing AI to help job seekers. The key takeaway: AI risk, quality, and efficacy can be assessed with the same rigor funders already bring to other types of innovation, if they know the right questions to ask.
"The question isn’t whether funders will encounter AI in their portfolios, but whether they will be prepared to evaluate it wisely." NEW on the CEP blog, Jared Chung, founder and executive director of AI-powered nonprofit CareerVillage.org, shares insight into the questions funders should be asking as they evaluate AI projects. His advice? Funders don't need to be experts — but they do need to act quickly. We were excited to see Coach and CareerVillage.org included in Bellwether's new report as one example of how organizations are building internal evaluation frameworks for leveraging AI effectively in education. Our team has done--is still actively doing!--a LOT of work to develop, implement, and iterate on effective evals that create a virtuous cycle of improvement in Coach's output and (the real goal) more relevant, accurate, and actionable #CareerNavigation support for learners. Beyond evals, Bellwether's report diagnoses a core challenge in the field: too often, AI tools in education are judged by the wrong metrics (like logins or minutes spent) while evidence of actual learning impact lags behind. We’ve certainly been grappling with this ourselves. It’s a misalignment that risks letting hype outpace reality. We found the report both validating and challenging, a reminder that as AI adoption accelerates, measurement practices need to catch up to ensure learners are actually benefiting. It's hard! But it's also so important. A useful report for tool developers, education leaders, and funders. Full report here: https://lnkd.in/g5kTn4hg

The future of work is being rewritten by skills, not just degrees. As we tear the paper ceiling, AI-powered tools are transforming how STARs (workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes) discover, pursue, and thrive in career pathways. This webinar brings together leaders on the frontlines of AI-driven career navigation, from nonprofit coalitions to startups building for frontline workers. We’ll ask the tough questions: What’s working? What’s not? How can we ensure AI expands mobility for STARs instead of reinforcing inequity? Together, we’ll co-create the foundations of a new business playbook: “How to Build for STARs Inclusion with AI” - a practical guide for tech innovators, product teams, and CHROs shaping the tools of tomorrow.
