Great job to everyone involved. If you know Carson City, you know that we love our open space and trails. It's one of the many reasons why Carson City is a great place to work and live. The Prison Hill Trail West is now open! This new non-motorized 2.5 mile trail contours along the west side of Prison Hill, connecting the Koontz Lane Trailhead with the Clearview Drive Trailhead and then continues to the south end of Prison Hill. It travels through a sagebrush steppe ecosystem, where you will be wowed by views of the Eagle Valley and Carson Valley. Interpretive panels will guide you through the natural and cultural history of Prison Hill. The trail is 10 feet wide, built sustainably with compacted decomposed granite. It is designed to be accessible to people of all ages and all abilities. This network of purpose-built trails connects to almost 5,000 acres of Carson City Parks and Open Space. The planning for these trails has been a primarily grassroots community-wide effort dating back to 1995. Prison Hill West is part of a larger effort that links trail systems and facilitate connections to downtown Carson City. Lumos has worked closely with Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department on multiple phases of the Carson River Trail system and we’re proud to see this next phase of the trail open for use. Thank you to the Team at Carson City for having us be a part of this project and thank you to Facilities Management Inc. for your great work in constructing this trail. Notably, this project finished ahead of time and under budget. Now that is teamwork!
