Really great Coffee Connect this week at Hospitality House of Charlotte — focused on the rise of life sciences in the Charlotte Region and its ripple effects across outpatient care, education, real estate, and specialized construction. Huge thanks to Angie Bush, Adam Cline, and the Hospitality House team for hosting and sharing more about their mission — and to Jordan Clark (Wake Forest University), Kacey Grantham (Wingate University), Meredith Lewis (Marathon Health), and Riley Clements (DPR Construction) for the thoughtful dialogue and collaboration. A few key takeaways that stuck with me: - Healthcare continues shifting toward outpatient and hospital-adjacent care, creating growing demand for affordable lodging — especially for patients traveling from rural communities across the Carolinas and beyond. - Hospitality House serves 2,400+ families annually, operates at full capacity year-round, and still cannot meet demand. Touring the space — and hearing patient stories firsthand — was incredibly moving. See the pinned map highlighting global patient origins. - Despite serving a national patient base, Hospitality House faces a unique fundraising challenge, as many beneficiaries don’t live locally (which is where philanthropy typically focuses). Their creativity — from volunteer-led meals to gardening and operations support — is inspiring. Have a unique skill and desire to volunteer? Reach out to Hospitality House. - The rise of healthcare at home is driving the need for new workforce training models, which Wingate University is actively developing. - Wake Forest is seeing greater demand for leadership and finance education for medical professionals, expanding executive learning offerings. - All of this growth is fueling demand for real estate and high-tech healthcare infrastructure — including DPR Construction’s work on a 10-year, 550-room state-of-the-art hospital project. - Fun fact from Riley: Charlotte is one of the few places in the world offering proton therapy cancer treatment — and the machine costs more than the building they built to hold it. - Marathon Health is uniquely positioned to offer onsite healthcare and is leaning in to support some of the healthcare trend shifts. It’s fascinating to see how one growing industry creates so many opportunities across healthcare, education, real estate, workforce development, and philanthropy. This conversation only scratched the surface — but it reinforced how powerful it is when leaders across sectors come together to learn and collaborate. Robert, Tracy, Kyle and I enjoyed the conversation. I’m looking forward to our next Coffee Connect at Quail Hollow, hosted by the Truist Championship, focused on community and business activation around tournament week. If you’re interested in joining a future Coffee Connect — or have a topic you’d like to explore with our investor community — Kyle, John, and I are always happy to connect.

Session 1 ✅ #EBL14 opened with intentional reflection and personality exploration, establishing a strong foundation for the months ahead. We're looking forward to spending the next several months with this exceptional group of leaders!
The Charlotte Regional Business Alliance's 14th Emerging Business Leaders (EBL) cohort kicked off with a dynamic day of personality discovery and self-reflection. The personalities within a team directly impact communication, connection, and productivity. As leaders, it’s important to understand our own strengths, tendencies, and blind spots—while also appreciating how others show up differently. This awareness lays the foundation for stronger collaboration, more effective leadership, and teams that truly thrive. Special thanks to Paul Joyce and Alex Bertuch-Wallace, MBA and Queens University of Charlotte for facilitating such a strong start for our 14th cohort. #EBL14 #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment
