On the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, we wanted to talk about a special relationship that launched our city's global connections around the world. Almost 4,000 miles away, a white stoned city called Arequipa calls our Queen City its sister. Six decades of sisterhood have blossomed into a steadfast partnership of cultural exchange and the creation of five other global "siblings" across three continents. In our story, we explore Charlotte's first-ever sister city-Arequipa, Peru. Read now: cltgov.me/arequipa

Today is your LAST CHANCE to apply for the Transit Authority Board! Check out our original post for more details. Good luck!
Now Accepting Applications for the Transit Authority The City of Charlotte is currently accepting applications to fill 12 vacancies for the Transit Authority Board of Trustees, following the passage of the Projects for Advancing Vehicle-Infrastructure Enhancements (P.A.V.E.) Act. The legislation, signed into law by Governor Josh Stein on July 1, authorizes the creation of the Transit Authority to advance mobility, strengthen regional growth and improve the public transit system throughout Mecklenburg County. The creation of the authority is contingent upon voter approval of the one-cent sales tax referendum on the November 2025 ballot. If voters approve the referendum, the Transit Authority will be established to finance, provide, operate and maintain a safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally-sound transit system for the region.
