Congratulations to Jenessa Rankin, DPW equipment operator III, and Sean Devers, construction inspector III in the Public Services Department Engineering Division, on their graduation from the Michigan Public Service Institute (MPSI). MPSI is a three-year education and training program designed to encourage professional development specifically for public works supervisors and managers. Jenessa and Sean are graduates of the fall 2025 class.

Congratulations to Farmington Hills Fire Department Staff Lieutenant Justin Perkey (Center), who graduated last week from Eastern Michigan University Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program! The program is a rigorous 350+ hour, nine-month course of study on advanced leadership skills for current and future leaders in the fire service. The Farmington Hills Fire Department is proud to have a dedicated professional like Lieutenant Perkey as part of the team! The City of Farmington Hills is proud to announce two important and well-deserved promotions in the Department of Public Services. Mark Saksewski was selected as the next City engineer replacing Jim Cubera who retired last month. Mark has been with the City of Farmington Hills for 30 years, serving most recently as a senior traffic engineer. Mark’s previous leadership in the Engineering Division will facilitate a smooth transition to his new role leading the Division. Tammy Gushard was promoted to assistant director of Public Services. Tammy has served the City’s Engineering and Public Services Divisions for over 23 years, most recently as senior engineer. Her wide range of experience and dedication to all things public services have been integral to the Department's successes.

Last week, Police Chief John Piggott was inducted to the Madonna University Criminal Justice Wall of Honor. This recognition celebrates graduates of Madonna’s Criminal Justice program who have achieved the rank of Chief of Police or Director of Public Safety. The recognition was celebrated with law enforcement colleagues from Farmington Hills and across the region, as well as officials from the University. Congratulations, Chief Piggott.

Congratulations to Senior Firefighter Michael Rucinski, who was recognized as the Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346 Firefighter of the Year during their annual Patriot Day Ceremony. Firefighter Rucinski's peers nominated him for the recognition based on his dedication and service to the community. Rucinski has been a member of the City of Farmington Hills Fire Department for nearly 13 years. He is a highly decorated firefighter who has earned four lifesaving awards. He is also vital part of the team supporting the annual fall assembly program, in which he plays a variety of super heroes. He also supports a variety of community risk reduction programs, including free smoke alarm installation. Before coming a firefighter, Rucinski was a professional hockey player with the NHL and a police officer. These accomplishments and more led to his recognition as the Groves-Walker American Legion Firefighter of the Year. 👏 Congratulations, Firefighter Rucinski!

Congratulations to Detective Brandon Leach who was recognized as the Groves-Walker American Legion Post 346 Police Officer of the Year during their annual Patriot Day Ceremony. Detective Leach's peers nominated him for the recognition based on his dedication and service to the community. Det. Leach is a 19-year member of the Farmington Hills Police Department who has served the community in various capacities, including as a task force officer with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. During his career he has received 21 departmental service awards, including six awards last year alone. His suspect interview techniques have led to several suspects admitting guilt and being charged with felonies, including a false threat of terrorism against a local organization and a serial sex offender. Det. Leach's commitment exemplifies the Farmington Hills Police Department's mission to maintaining the safety and quality of life of this community, through the delivery of superior police services without prejudice or partiality. These accomplishments and more led to his recognition as the Groves-Walker American Legion Police Officer of the Year. 👏 Congratulations, Det. Leach!
