Earlier this week, our Public Works leaders treated the employees in all three divisions to a barbecue at Langan Park to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for another year of incredible work. 🙌 Made up of Public Services, Infrastructure and Engineering, and Build Mobile, Public Works includes some of the city’s major functions. These employees directly impact the lives of Mobilians every day, from the engineers that design and inspect our roads and bridges to the crews that clean, mow, and manage our public spaces and facilities. Happy #NationalPublicWorksWeek to all of our hardworking Public Works professionals!

Yesterday, our department leaders came together for an internal tabletop exercise to plan for and respond to a mock disaster, which in this scenario was a major hurricane. ⛈ This exercise was part of a larger effort to create a comprehensive Emergency Action Plan across every department at the City of Mobile, and it was a great opportunity to see where our processes could be streamlined and improved. In a few months, we will be running a similar exercise with our strategic partners from Mobile County Emergency Management Agency, Mobile County Commission, the National Weather Service, and more. Thank you to our Department of Public Safety, the Department of Resilience and Sustainability, and our amazing SBP Fellow, Madeleine Dotson, for organizing all these disaster preparedness efforts. Their hard work will help save lives and help our community recover the next time a major disaster strikes.
