Sun Prairie was one of 23 recipients recognized last week as a 2025 Climate Champion at the Climate Champions Celebration hosted by the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change. Sun Prairie celebrated with Dane County Executive Melissa Agard, OECC staff, and past and current recipients, including the Sun Prairie Area School District. The City of Sun Prairie is one of 16 communities across the country chosen to participate in the Housing Supply Accelerator Challenge! Launched by the National League of Cities and the American Planning Association, this challenge is designed to accelerate the implementation of proven and innovative housing strategies and expand the supply of housing in communities across the country. Through our participation, Sun Prairie will engage in virtual learnings, peer learning opportunities, receive tailored technical assistance, access best practices and receive national recognition from NLC and the APA. “Sun Prairie is thrilled to have been selected for this program,” according to City of Sun Prairie Mayor Steve Stocker. “Our community is growing – which is exciting, but not without its challenges. * CITY OF SUN PRAIRIE RECOGNIZED AS 2025 CLIMATE CHAMPION! * Sun Prairie is proud to be named a 2025 Climate Champion by the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change for the fifth year in a row! This acknowledgement recognizes major strides in sustainability, including reaching 100% renewable electricity for all municipal operations in 2025. With the installation of four solar photovoltaic (PV) systems since 2018 and the purchase of renewable energy blocks from Sun Prairie Utilities, all municipal buildings such as City Hall, the Sun Prairie Public Library, the Westside Community Services Building and Wastewater Treatment Plant, along with city operations such as electric vehicle charging stations, traffic lights and street lights are now powered entirely by renewable electricity. This transition eliminates 5,358 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, marking a significant step toward Sun Prairie’s broader climate goals! *WELCOME TO THE TEAM* The City of Sun Prairie is excited to welcome Ashley Manthei as the city’s Communications Manager. As Communications Manager, Ashley will lead strategic communication efforts for the city. She will be tasked with implementing the findings of the newly created ad-hoc Communications Committee that is set to complete its work by October of this year. The position will also be responsible for inclusive community engagement, fostering community relationships, and adapting communication and outreach efforts to meet community needs. Ashley holds a B.A. in Communication Studies and minors in Professional Writing and Spanish.  We are thrilled to have her on board and look forward to the impact she will make in advancing our communication and engagement goals!
