The City and the Vernon Police Department take public safety very seriously. There have been recent news reports naming Vernon as the "most-burglarized city" in California. This designation misrepresents our community and does not reflect the city’s unique structure and demographics. The analysis used a per capita calculation based only on our residential population of just over 200 residents, without accounting for our 1,800+ businesses and 50,000 daily workers. Most importantly, of the 110 burglaries reported in 2023 (the data cited by Safewise), none were residential—Vernon had zero residential burglaries. The Vernon Police Department works proactively with local businesses, residents and the community to deter and investigate criminal activity. The City remains committed to public safety, law enforcement excellence, and the protection of our residents, businesses, and the tens of thousands of workers who help power Southern California’s economy. #CityofVernonCA

Vernon Public Utilities’ Gas Division has earned the 2024 Safety Award from the American Public Gas Association (APGA) - marking five years in a row of national recognition! The APGA Safety Award honors public natural gas systems with the lowest injury incidence rates and highlights a deep commitment to keeping employees safe every day, on every job. #ThrowbackThursday! Vernon was once home to one of Southern California’s most influential ceramic producers, Vernon Kilns. Established in the early 1900s as Poxon China Company, the business was purchased in 1931 by Faye G. Bennison and renamed Vernon Kilns. From the 1930s-1950s, Vernon Kilns flourished. The business produced tableware, art pottery and giftware, and even collaborated with renowned artists like Rockwell Kent and Disney! Their distinctive cone-shaped beehive kilns fired clay sourced from across the U.S. to produce raw goods that were then paired with California minerals for glazes. Though foreign competition led to the plant’s closure in 1958, Vernon Kilns remains a celebrated name in American ceramics. 🍽️ Fun fact: Their first original dinnerware line, Montecito, was created after a 1933 earthquake destroyed much of their inherited stock. #120YearsStrong #VernonProud #CityofVernonCA #VernonFacts #VernonHistory
